Discussion
Our local shop changed hands a couple of years ago and, since then, all sorts of "discoveries" have been appearing out of the store room. From bicycle repair kits, to electric irons, to patent medicines, there's stuff there that would make Arkwright's eyes light up.
Sadly (or perhaps not) most of it's only good for "interesting display" purposes now. But one thing caught my eye last week as a memory from childhood and I managed to sweet talk the owner into donating it to science:

Now, I have no idea when a 1/4 lb of tea last cost 7 1/2p but I suspect i was still going to school in short trousers at the time. Still, on opening, it still looked like tea leaves:

and didn't smell of anything nasty. Probably because they didn't put "best before" or "use by" dates on the pack back then, so the contents didn't know when to go off.
So, after a day or so of wondering if it was a good idea, I got the old teapot warmed, re-boiled the kettle, and took the plunge:

It not only smells and tastes like I remember, so far I haven't found myself convulsing or suffering agonising stomach cramps. If I'm not in hospital by tomorrow lunchtime I might try to liberate a pack of the premium Ceylon Breakfast that he also found
