hi everyone - looking for a decentish place for a meal for 2 in Reading/ Berkshire surrounding areas. anything other than Thai we're not keen. Have eaten at pretty much all places at oracle riverside etc

doesn't have to be mega fancy just something different.

Have eaten a fair bit in Wokingham too as well as Maidenhead - so might try Windsor/ Henley way

Thanks

The Hinds head in Bray, just down the road from Maidenhead.

You're spoilt for choice in Bray. Heston Blumenthal has three establishments there - The Fat Duck, which we've never been able to get into, the aforementioned Hinds Head, and the Crown pub, which is the cheapest of the three.

There is also the Waterside, owned by the Roux brothers, and an excellent Italian restaurant called Caldesi in Campagna.

OP - how much were you looking to spend, and how far from Reading would you be willing to travel?

The Bull at Sonning used to be excellent - a while since I've been though. Great venue for a pre / after meal stroll too.

The Hawelli in Twyford, it's one of the best curry houses in the country and only one stop on the train.

Is the French Horn still going in Sonning Common ?

Most of the time I tend to eat in Perry's. Jamaican cafe in town. Cheap and good wholesome food. Not really date material though.

The only fancy place I tried that I liked was Hotel Du Vin in Henley. The steak I had was out of this world.

Everything else has been your typical TGI, Bella Italia, Pizza Express which I'm sure you've had a million times.

Try the Bull on Bell St in Henley,

Great food, interesting place to sit- outside tables if the weather is nice too and good service.

They do a great Roast Pork sharing dish for 2 people which is delicious.

Slightly cheaper is the LIttle Angel over the other side of the river. Good hearty food too with big portions. Even the salads are immense.

The Greyhound - Finchampsted (great quality british pub food)
The Bull - Arborfield (superb steak, I should know, the butchers I work at supplies them - and not just the cheap bits!)

The Royal Oak at Paley Street
Marlow has the Hand and Flowers, the Coach (both Tom Kerridge) and the Vanilla Pod which I've not tried but heard good things about. Atul Kochhar also has a place in the Compleat Angler which is very good if you want a high end curry.
Also have a look at El Pic in Camberley - wonderful Tapas.
