12th October this year is Canadian thanks giving. I have a bunch of Canadian friends, and also a bunch of bricks having just pulled up our drive. We want to do a full pig in a pit and are looking for inspiration. Show us your pits.

Bit small for a pig, more jack russell sized, but the first thing I ever built out of bricks and a really good bbq.

Looks good! How did you make the grill platform?

What have you cooked on it?

Quite easy to hold the grill, built the sides up with the bricks lying on their wide side, then for the top layer turned them on their narrow edge, so it leaves a shelf about an inch wide. There are a few vents around the bottom that can be closed off with bricks, depending on what you want to do. It's got a few cracks in it now, but it's about 6-7 years old and my friend that lives there now still uses it. I would recommend getting a good stainless steel grill, I think the one for that cost about £40, but it's been outside for 6-7 years in all weathers and is still fine.

I guess it's a bit bigger than it looks, he's quite big for a jack russell. I think I've cooked for about 10 at one go, it holds about 20 burgers and 10 sausages at the same time, with plenty of space to move them around. As I've moved from there now, I now have a Barbecook for the garden, I didn't want to build one as we're selling this house soonish and I didn't want one of my creations to knock value off the house. I prefer the pit to the Barbecook as it can hold a lot more food.
