Anniversary dinner in London

I have my 10th Anniversary coming up soon and would like to take the wife out in the City.
I have eaten all over the place but I need to find somewhere that is a bit special and has the right romantic vibe, without being overly pretentious.

Criteria as follows:

- Ideally has steak on the menu (wife favorite is fillet)
- Pan-asian is OK
- Nice ambiance and decor
- Friendly attentive staff
- Price not a major concern but I am not paying more than £60 for a bottle of red
- Glamorous artisan food is not really our thing, I prefer 3 decent courses and prefer taste over presentation

My thoughts as follows:

- Berners Tavern (recommended on internet search)
- The Wolseley (never been here for dinner though)
- Maze (never been)
- Hakkasan

clos maggiore in covent garden and ask for a table in the conservatory

Maybe not the most imaginative, but I always enjoy Galvin at windows in the Hilton, park lane.

I've been to many different London restaurants, but this remains a firm favourite and is consistently very good as well as having a formal but comfortable atmosphere.

I was disappointed with Maze when I went last year, found it very meh and forgettable.

Agree with Galvin at the Windows though, good views over the city and great food.

Good to hear. I've been many times and always had a great experience there.

Be sure to get a conservatory table and you can't go wrong

Bit cliche though.

I went and it felt like it was owned and run by a dating site as EVERY table was just couples. Think we had the tasting thing with wine, it was nice, just a bit of a cliche was my thinking after.

It is indeed lovely and the service excellent too.

My current favourite however is 'The Laughing Gravy' near Waterloo. The only 'I could eat that again' moments I've had lately were all there. Pleasing choice of meaty options and the wine list has a good selection at sensible money.

I enjoyed the food at Maze personally but there are better; Galvin I feel that the menu is too limited (though good)

A few others to consider perhaps

Roka or L'Atelier De Joel Robuchon which are both for me brilliant

Berners Tavern - Enjoyed the meal here. Good cocktail bar as well.
Maze - I was also disappointed with Maze. Not sure what it was, but wouldn't rush back.
Hakkasan - I like it here, but it is quite dark and busy i.e. may not be an ideal anniversary dinner place.

If steak is the requirement, how about Goodman's? Great steak, great sides and decent wine. The one on Maddox street is near some good places for pre/post dinner cocktails too.
