Gas safety cut out needed in commercial kitchens?
Discussion
Hi guys,
Looking to find out for my local community centre, which has a commercial spec kitchen. I'm trying to find out if current regs require the stockport burners need to have the built-in gas safety cut out? so that the gas cant leak out.. As the existing equipment doesn't have the cut out.
Thanks,
Med

As a general rule if you are connecting new or replacing existing gas appliances your extraction will require gas interlocking. This means that should the extraction fail or be insufficient the gas is cut to all appliances. It's a single valve that is fitted to the kitchen gas supply activated by a vacuum switch which is activated by the extraction running or not.
It's not a massive deal really and pretty important. This is in addition to each gas appliance having flame failure devices on each gas outlet which is standard for modern equipment.

Not expensive but needs installing by a pro.

Just re-read, do you mean the appliances don't have FFD?
If nothing is changing then there is no need to add anything, all regs apply to changes and additions. But, its worth looking at what you have in place. FFD on all appliances supersedes interlocking but interlocking supersedes ALL appliances.
