Tomato Allergy - Alternatives

Hi, Gang.

Unfortunately, my eldest daughter has just been diagnosed as being allergic to Tomatoes. The poor bugger loves her Pizzas, and Spaghetti Bolognese, etc.

Anyone know of any alternative way of making such stuff without Tomatoes?

Roasted pepper sauce seems like an option (if you can find one without tomato in it).

Or if you can get hold of this, not seen it in the UK but maybe someone sells it...

Ascorbic acid, I would guess, for citrussy taste without being over lemony?

Oh and on that recipe they say '1/2 to 1 fresh beet'

I presume that American speak for a Beetroot?

Yes, that's a beetroot.

Read the comments below the article... it appears that the vitamin C can be replaces with lemon juice, and the beetroot is primarily for colour.

im allergic too, was going to say the notomato link but beaten to it. luckily i prefer bbq sauce on pizzas but found most supermarket vrieties that seem to say tomato is either too small a quantity to affect me or if it is cooked for over and hour it seems to kill any effect. not saying your daughter is the same but i still need to be careful. especially watching in cafes if toms or mushrooms ( im allergic to them too) have been cooked on the same hotplate or pan.

He's a bit clever that CalibraX bloke isn't he? Almost solved my MISSING Knorr lamb casserole mix problem but not quite, but he was the only one who found it on the web. Clever chappie eh?

Anyway back to your Nomato sauce. If it were me trying to find this for my moistest precious daughter, I'd get right on to the manufacturer and arrange to visit and pick up a few jars. Of course with them being in Pennsylvannia I'd still take her for a weekend away, but that's just me. You might not love your daughter enough to do that

Failing that, Stu R (http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?h=0&memberId=62323&t=518177&f=8&mid=60671) used to have a food import/export business in the states, he might have some contacts or be able to organise to sling you a box over? He's a thoroughly nice chap.
