Up to about a year or so ago I was into home bread making , various things meant it was put on hold .
So today with nothing else to do I thought I would knock up some bread .
Went to store cupboard and , Tesco foil packs of yeast BBE DEC 14 , Alison strong flour AUG 14
So the question is , bake or bin
Not enough time to go out to stock up
I guess I already know the answer

The flour you might be ok with, but I suspect the yeast has had it.

Reminds me I need to get back into that. Quite therapeutic kneading.

Mix the yeast in a mug with some water and sugar. If it grows use it. If not don't. Suspect it will be fine for years.

My girlfriend likes to bake. Yeast goes off. Put it in warm but not hot water, see if it has a good head on it after ten minutes.

If it's longlife yeast it'll last years past its sell/use by date. I used some dated 2007 earlier this year.

I don't think that the flour will be OK.

A year ago I used some out of date flour and the bread rose very unevenly.

I am happy to say that the bread turned out fine, but the remaining yeast and flour will be dumped .
There little to beat the tast and smell of fresh cooked bread, with tasters and lunch today , one of the loaves is almost gone biggrin
Time to get out and restock baking stores
Has anyone tried soda bread( Paul Holliwood recipe ) , buttermilk instead of yeast , no rising , mix chese and onion in the mix and cook immediately .To die for lick
