Normally a robust red or in the summer a rose kind of guy. We don't often eat puddings so this doesn't often become an issue.

Will this be okay with Christmas Pud?

Good choice. If you're more a 'red' person, maybe consider something like this: http://www.waitrosecellar.com/all-wines/wine-type/...

That Brown Brothers would go beautifully with Christmas Pud. And mince pies too, for that matter ...

I'd serve slightly chilled, but don't over-do it in the fridge. Too many dessert wines are spoiled by being served too cold.

Thanks chaps. thumbup

Only 3 for lunch this year, I'm the only red drinker, so 1/2 bottle of white will be ideal. I'll be back on red with cheese. wink

Love dessert wine. yum

I got a really nice bottle of super sweet sherry, which I think will pair wonderfully with Xmas pud. If there's any left.

Sainsbury's Pedro Ximenez - about £8 for a 500 ml bottle.

I got myself a bottle of Madeira to go with the pud this year. Never had it before so looking forward to trying it

I picked up a bottle of this over the weekend - it's like a fig syrup! Should go perfectly with Xmas pud.

My vote goes on Elysium (Majestic stock it ..) which is lovely, and a great point made by 2BToo, don't over chill!

This is PH. Why has no one recommended the 1945 d'Yquem yet?

Wine from Sainsbury's indeed. This place has gone to the dogs!

Some good suggestions. Personally I think the Elysium or the Orange Muscat won't quite stand up to Christmas pudding. The Pedro Ximenez will, possibly a bit too much. I'd go with Madeira...

On the topic of sherry, I had a bottle of 2011 Alvear Pedro Ximenez de Anada Montilla-Moriles other weekend.

100 Parker points (if anyone cares). Properly lovely.

It is very good! If you like that, have you considered/tried Tokaji. My favourite of all dessert wines, beautiful stuff.

And Aldi have a nice 2/3rd bottle sized bargain one in currently too.

Eiswein is my preferred Dessert Wine.

Can be difficult to find, and isn't cheap given the process by which it is made .... but it's lick

We got some from Aldi a couple of years ago and I'm sure it was a fiver for half-bottle.

They've got some this year (not the same wine though) and it's £25.

Just polished some off with mince pies and brandy butter. yum

Lovely to sip with pud but not the sort of thing to chug-a-lug on it's own. wink

This works very well on its own or with Christmas pudding:

I used to love Tokaji.

If you like it, and dogs, then it's worth watching a film called Dean Spanley, it's a great, but relatively unknown film - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135968/
Many many thanks for that film recommendation. Just watched and really enjoyed it.
