Not really an ideal situation but on Christmas Day I will be cooking the turkey at my house as my mothers oven will not fit everything in. The drive is around 10 minuets will it be possible to cook for the full amount then cover the bird with tin foil and wrap in towel to keep it insulated? Or is this asking for a disaster.

You should let it rest anyway, so the drive will do it good wink

Both.
It's perfectly possible and 10 minutes will be a good rest as Murph says. It's also asking for massive, greasy, disaster which will leave your car stinking of turkey juices for months and make some future owner years down the line curious as to why he keeps finding sprouts under the seats.

hehe

I rest it for nigh on an hour anyway, so wrap it in foil etc and put it in a clean tin while you make the gravy. The main issue I can see is it'll delay your drinking.

Hi

The preferred bbqers way is to use a cool box.

Double wrap the bird once it's out of the heat and open for 15mins or the carry over will overcook the breast meat.

Pre warm the cooler by filling with boiling water half an hour before. Empty then use old towels to fill the bottom then top and it will be at a safe tempmfor a few hours and won't leak in the car although you'll still smell itbefor

We are doing the exact same thing. Turkey in the oven at midnight, on low. Give it a little blast before we set off in the morning. 30 mins drive to friends.

Try and get a foil turkey roasting tray and some heavy duty foil to wrap it in. Job done

It'll be fine. All the important angles appear covered - delayed drinking, minimise the J-turns etc.
One year my middle sister was doing the cooking at Mum's. After a couple of hours she realised the oven wasn't working properly - one of the two elements has died. The only time I've ever chauffeured a turkey!
We took the part cooked turkey to hers, also about 10 mins away to finish it off.

The car did indeed smell a bit of spilt gravy for a while. E30s are a bit tail happy smile,

regards,
Jet

PS we all died of food poisoning of course biggrin

Definitely.

If you've got one large enough for the old bird to fit in, that's the way to go.

Can you get Styrofoam ones over here in the UK? Maybe a restaurant supply place or something?

I used one on Thanksgiving when I cooked a Turkey overnight at mine and took it along to the do 70 miles away (That is local for me in Houston biggrin)

You can get them in Walmart for about a fiver there.

Take a gas ring and a huge pan and deep-fry it in the garden. Job jobbed.

Thanks everyone for the comments I think the cool box idea is the way i might choose minimalism the risk of smell and loose sprouts!

Thanks all
