How many malts could you identify in a blind tasting?
Discussion
As the title says. Some of the Islays are very close to one another as are several Speysides. But some are very distinctively unique; Glenfiddich, Aberlour, Laphroaig. Talisker, Glenmorangie, Highland Park amongst the well known ones. Remember there are about 100 active malt whisky distilleries in Scotland and that some produce different aged product and also use different woods.
It really depends. If we are talking distillery bottlings then it would be easier. Islay is probably the easiest as the distilleries all have their own style but I find Speyside difficult due to so many tiny differences in taste.
Some of the Highland stuff is easier to recognise such as Glendronach and Glenmorangie. I find it much easier to tell regions apart but that can still be very tricky.
