Sat in a bar in Rotterdam, usually just drink duvel but they only had one bottle left tonight. So took an Omer as my second on recommendation from the barman which is also pretty enjoyable. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of what to try? They have a pretty comprehensive list (I think over 250 different bottles) so if it's fairly common over here I'm sure they will have it. I'll try to post up the list over the next few minutes.

Ok, so I've now also had a Kasteel blond, and a ReinaeRt tRipel. Both also highly inoffensive. But nothing that's made me go WOW! Only 50 mins til last orders guys and gals. (Although since I only live 40 ft away another night isn't a problem)

There is, but unless he's into his stronger blond beers/tripel' she will be just going on what he sells I imagine. Last 3 have been his recommendation and are all nice, especially the ReinaeRt, but if anyone has any particular favourites then I'd still love to hear. I always drink duvel so he may be just recommending ones he thinks are similar.

Last orders so ordered 3 last ones. Hopus, Gentse strop, and a Kasteel tripel (11% 😳) to finish

Wow you say? scratchchin

I can see quite a few good beers but if you fancy something different, go in with an open mind if you don't know what these are, I love this sort of stuff personally

Rodenbach Grand cru
Liefmans goudenband is a pretty good flemish brown, a bit lighter if the above smells too offensive.

I haven't had any of those particular Guezes so can't point to any, but those two are worth trying in this area of beers wink

Past last orders now, but tomorrow is another day. Thanks for the recommendations. And keep them coming everyone.

I love this bar..... But more importantly.... I think this bar loves me too

In no particular order, the following are great beers that I would gladly drink all day:-

- Chimay Blue
- La Trappe Quadrupel
- Rochefort 8 & 10
- Orval (Really love this beer).
- Rodenbach Grand-Cru (Sour beer that smells of balsamic vinegar, bloody lovely).
- Duvel (Which you've already mentioned)
- Saison Dupont
- De Molen beers are usually decent from the ones that I have tried so far.

All of the above are absolutely the best picks off that list. Orval is my ultimate desert island beer.

Kasteel Donker, easily my favorite beer.

Depends what you generally like though, my Mrs prefers IPA's or Stouts and isn't at all impressed with the Donker.

A decent barman should be able to make some recommendations based on what you like.

Of the ones listed in the OP's pics that I've tried, I'd recommend:-

Orval
Rodenbach Grand Cru
Kasteel Rouge
St Bernadus Abt 12

The last one needs care, as it really is 330ml of liquid knock-out drops (but it is fvcking delicious).

The Rodenbach, though, is very very special indeed! Incredibly moreish!

Vedett Extra White is my current favourite, it's a Witbier similar to Hoegaarden. Don't confuse with Weissbier!

Didn't think to mention Orval, there's nothing I'm aware of that's quite like it.

I also didn't notice the best Strong Dark and Belgian IPA in my opinion, Gouden Carolous Classic and de Ranke XX Bitter (Cuvee de Ranke, another one from them, a great sour if you can get hold of it)

I tried a wheat beer recently.

I won't be making that mistake again.

Lots of beers contain wheat. Or do you mean Weissbier or Witbier (which are 2 very different things)?

Purely out of interest, is there any particular reason?

I was going to suggest La Chouffe but they don't appear to have it
