I remember when a pint was £1, over the past two decades there's been huge inflation, in London a pint is often over £5, and even down in Wales the £3 mark has been breached nearly everywhere.

Given a pint of beer costs about 20p to make surely sooner or later the price of beer will collapse and fall back in line with earnings growth on average since 1750. It's hard to see how current demand for beer is being sustained at these prices.

I for one am looking forward to the impending beer price crash, if a few beer speculators get burned in the process so be it. So Ph'ers my question to you is when the crash comes how low do you think the price of beer will fall?

Hard to say. I'm not going to buy until it drops to under £4.20, which between me and my wife is still a big stretch on our combined income. Until then we're stuck having to rent a couple of cans.

Beer is going up so quick around here I'm considering stocking up on a few cases. Maybe even build a small portfolio as an alternative pension fund.

I can recall paying I shilling 9 pence for a pint. I was fifteen at the time. Current beer prices are unsustainable I reckon anywhere outside of cities. Having said that Green King are doing very well apparently. Knock off a pound a pint and get some forearms propping up the bars.

Personally I don't care. I pay 5-7 a pint depending where I am or what interesting beers the local has on (£7 a pint for some of their strong ones) - I am not going to ge through more than 8 pints or whatever and I'll probably only go out once or twice a week. Saving £15 a week by not going to pubs (if they dropped prices a quid let's say) is not something I would bother with.

Tried that trouble is I keep drinking it.

I paid £4.60 for a pint of Carling in the City on Friday. That would buy me nearly half a crate of 440ml cans.

Police in some parts of Yorkshire, Halifax in particular, are asking for beer to go up in price to stop the situation where teenagers get pi55ed on £6 going out money. Can't blame the coppers really, is that they get paid for? clearing up the mess for the sake of cheap beer?

Went down to London on a coach with a load of people from Yorkshire, stayed at a hotel near the airport. Went down to the bar for a beer and a proseco, the first proseco they gave me was completely flat, I gave it back, and it was £7.50. Anyway, they opened a new bottle. I asked how much the pint was, that was £7.50 as well, told 'em to keep it. Every bloke off the coach asked for a pint, and all said the same two words when told the price - 'How Much'.

It were crap beer too, over chilled, over gassed and beer flavoured water.

I really don't think it is more expensive (with inflation) than it was in the past

I am amazed you found a pub in town selling it. Along with other dross like Fosters it's all but gone from most decent pubs. Thank god.

Agreed. It always amazes me when people, faced with a variety of different draught lagers/beers, go for Fosters, Carling, or even worse, Carlsberg vomit

Why is it such a problem for you two? No one is forcing you to drink it. I don't get upset because they serve things I don't like. Its really odd.

It's definitely going to go up, the £1.50 a bottle ales in Tesco isn't sustainable, so a wise man would be stocking up. I have 120 bottles under the stairs that I'll be selling for at least £2 each in the near future. Cash-back!

In all seriousness, it doesn't seem long ago that a case of popular beer / lager that you'd buy to give the binmen was a tenner, and then suddenly it became £20.
