An elderly single malt - circa 1976

I'm fond of a single malt and whilst helping my father in law clear some cupboards came across this - which he's been kind enough to give to me. I don't know much about the distillery or how whisky ages - will it be good/safe/worth keeping unopened? Any advice appreciated

9 years at bottling and cask strength ... time to search against the distillery name and year of production / bottling ... stating with ' the scotch malt whisky society ' if they still exist - which they do https://www.smws.com/

Oooh, bottling number 3.4? That's VERY early in SMWS history. May be more historically interesting than valuable, but a bottle to treasure for sure.

Edit: Quick online troll says it is a Bowmore '76, but more than that I have yet to find.
