I have a couple of lamb shanks to cook, but it's too hot for a "mash veg and gravy" type of dinner, so has anyone got any good recipes for braised / slow cooked lamb shanks with a summery salad?

Curry is a food for all seasons.

I've made this a few times. Simple to make and super tasty.

Serve with a Kachumber salad.

Sounds fab but the OH won't eat curry.

Ideally need some sort of bbq / minty / somethingy rub with a sauce. For example, was wondering if there is a way of charring the shanks and serving with a cucumber raita, but worried that the meat will be undercooked or too tough. So they need to be slow cooked really, but all the slow cooked recipes I can find are too "wintery".

I'd go with a really long marinate in a tandoori spice blend and yoghurt for a few days then slow cook in the oven until tender. Finish on a BBQ with mint and coriander then serve with a decent salad, lots of pickles, bhajis or Bombay potatoes and breads.

Kind of a lamb curry but not quite.

How about this one Matt?
It would work very well with your lamb shanks.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps. I marinaded the lamb in greek yoghurt, coriander, mint and cumin for a couple of days and tonight I cooked them at 160 for three hours then finished them off on a griddle pan. I used the remainder of the greek yoghurt to make a cucumber and mint raita. Turned out ok.
