Tonic Water.

So......I have tried 'Fever Tree' and I think it just tastes like....well, Tonic water.

Am I missing something here ?

Cannot see/taste, anything special. I'll be sticking with the regular stuff.

I think it tastes nicer than Schweppes but maybe it's a placebo thing. Might depend on what gin you're mixing it with too. Tesco Finest is VERY similar to FT.

My perfect G and T is a double measure of Plymouth, a bottle of FT , 2 or 3 ice cubes and a sliver of lemon. Bliss.

Hendrick's, Fever Tree and Cucumber.

emperors new clothes. Honestly I can taste bugger all difference, but everyone wants to be seen as a hipster and doesn't want to be "that guy". I tried Fever Tree a year or two ago.

IMHO, it was overpriced rubbish. Schweppes is better, in my opinion.

Waitrose "Essentials" tonic water is badged Schweppes, and only costs 50p a litre.

Lots of tonic waters will have a different taste - some are sweeter than others, some have more fizz, you don't want to pair a sweet tonic with a gin at the sweeter end of the scale.

Then you have the 'slice' - lemon, lime or cucumber? - all add a different hint to the flavour.

It's all about balancing the quinine and sweetener concentrations.

I have had their Mediterranean tonic water a few times which gives a different taste and makes a nice change.

I prefer Schweppes (full fat). But they do taste different.

I'm not a big fan of the flavoured tonics either (elderflower etc). The gin flavours it, along with whatever vitamin supplement you drop into the end drink

But WTF is it with British full fat Schweppes having saccharin in it? Gives it a horrible aftertaste. I seem to recall the only unsullied ones were Waitrose own brand and fever tree.

I use Fever Tree naturally light tonic which does taste 'cleaner' than normal tonic.

I'm not precious about it though and am quite happy with any tonic.

Fevertree is my favorite and its handy in the little cans too, with Tanqueray 10 for me and a slither of lime.

Had some friends round who were drinking the cornershops happy shopper tonic and Gordons gin and they agreed mine was much nicer.

Prefer Schweppes with almost every Gin. Have tried fever tree loads of times and definitely think it's the fancy bottle "premium" factor that has made it popular. Most gin experts are now over the whole "premium" tonic thing and back to serving Schweppes too.

Brockmans, slice of pink grapefruit and Schweppes for me.

I'm sure most people haven't - it's probably been that way for years and everyone's become conditioned to it. However, it's blatantly obvious when you come from somewhere where it's made without saccharin.
