Soda and a slice of lime is about it if you are also avoiding sugar. frown

What about non alcoholic beers? I don't mind a Becks Blue if I'm driving, but it does have 0.05% alcohol....

Quite often bars stick ginger beer (non alcoholic) which makes a pleasant change.

A pint of soda with a dash of lime cordial was my tipple. It was always important to stress "a dash" to bar staff otherwise I'd end up a pint of sugar water.

You'll never find it in a pub, but for home or parties I can highly recommend Brewdog Nanny State (available in Tesco). It is the only alcohol free drink that actually tasted like the alcoholic equivalent, and it's lovely.

I agree, as long as you're a fan of these very hoppy IPA's.

ETA I've seen it in pubs.

Another tip, which is mainly for work situations (I do a lot of corporate entertaining) was to get the lime and soda in a short glass to make it look like a G&T. After a while it becomes tedious explaining to people why you're not drinking. You'll find some drinkers become very uncomfortable around non-drinkers.

There are some very nice ginger beers, but you have to be selective as some of them have a lot of sugar.
I like fentimans but must admit not checked ingredients.

I tend not to drink alchohol in pubs as I'm usually driving. The alchohol-free lagers are much better than they were (as mentioned) and can be spruced up with a shot of lime.

I keep a stash of 'Bavaria' lager-free lager at home, (Ocado) and don't miss the alchohol.

Tomato juice laced with Lea & Perrins works, and I like the slimline drinks, so a SL Tonic with lime/orange/ice is fine. Diet Coke if all else fails.

Orange/pineapple juice spritzers are oocasionsally good but the 'soda water' that comes out of those dispensing guns often isn't. So Perrier or Pelligrino is better.

Bars in France often have 'artisanal' lemonade, in those wire stopper bottles. Delicious 'long' with a lime twist.

For lunch, I can have One Drink. I'm the only person left in Britain who likes bitters and vermouths, apparently. So a Campari & SL Tonic, or a Martini/Cinzano Bianco or a Dubonnet spritzer just confuses bar staff, assuming they even have the makings.
