In the bad old days, a take-away was an expensive treat and took time and planing before you could chow-down.

But, now, a few taps on yer phone and you can have Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian, fish n chips, kebabs, (and I'm sure there are others) delivered in 20 - 30 mins for about a fiver a head. Given that we spunk about 150 a week on shopping, just wondering if we could forget buying supermarket food and just live on take-away?

I could quite happily if they would deliver to me. I would probably be dead by the time I'm 40 though!

150 a week on just food?! what are you eating, or do you have a family of 10?

I'm 36. Reckon I'd give it a go.

Don't like my chances of seeing 40 if I did though. What a journey, mind.

Tell my kids I died happy. With poppadoms.

Could I? Yes but I'd end up as big as outside.

I spent six months lodging with a woman who kept her kitchen in a right state, to the point where I couldn't cook anything. (A few days after moving in I emptied the kitchen bin only to have loads of maggots fall out the bottom of the bag, its no wonder the house was full of flies). I spent those days eating my tea (or dinner to those who prefer) with food ordered from Just Eat, as well as microwave meals. Cost me a lot of money mind, which was part of the reason I was there for six months!

I tried to stay with the healthy food, my local kebab shop does fantastic shish chicken so I had that the most, alternating between chips or couscous for sides. Pizzas, curries and the odd chinese were the other stuff I ate.

£5 per head for a takeaway, you can very easily feed 2 people for that if you make it yourself.

Probably......but last time I ordered from there I got my card cloned and my accounts cleared out.....so I'm not going to try.

I'd get very bored of pizza, as that's the only thing Just Eat will deliver to me.

Nope, minimum order is £10 so for me on my own that will be £300 a month and my only choice is 8 Chinese, 4 Indians, 2 Pizza and a questionable fried chicken establishment

that's like £21 a day. meh. There are plenty of junk/frozen food that's really cheap. Like asda frozen pizzas. £1.50 and 800cals, so plenty for 1 meal (if eating 3 a day). most ready meals in supermarkets (even the deli area) are still cheaper then a takeaway.

Anwyay, I prefer collecting. I have never used just eat. in the 15yrs+ that I've lived here I've never asked for delivery from my local chinese place (as it's a third of a mile up the road). Anything less than a mile it's pretty easy to just get on your bicycle to pick it up.

I'm sure his condition is hereditary though. There was the story of a guy who lived off eating big macs every day and he was of perfect health. It's just about making sure you have the right amount of cals each day.

Think it depends on the part of the country you live in, at work take aways are worrying cheap (to the point where I can't work out how they stay open) where as at home they are quite pricy, kebabs start at £5.

I probably could yeah. Its just so easy.

It doesn't help that I have changed from my regular kebab shop to a different one and the quality and service is miles better. You can get a small pizza, chips, garlic bread baguette, mixed kebab meat wrap and a can for £12 delivered, apparently boxedin

The only real issue I find is the minimum orders which is inconvenient when its for one:-

hehe

Sorry to be a bore OP however a takeaway is still a treat for my partner and I as a) it costs considerably more than almost all of the meals we cook (jacket potato, beans and cheese yesterday) and b) I like not being really fat.

I agree with the poster I quoted though, what a (relatively short) way to live whilst you're on that train of mass weight gain!

I don't think you're ready for the takeaway for every meal lifestyle.
