Depends on where you are staying in Croydon, but Planet Spice is the south side (Shirley/Addington ish) and is very good.

Planet Spice is good but pretty far out. Interesting fusion type curry menu.

Banana Leaf is great for South Indian. Doesn't look promising from the outside, but normally fantastic.

Brasserie Vacherin is a good bistro/oysters/steak type place

Gallicia for tapas (you'll need to book)

Bagattis is very good Italian

Joannas in Crystal Palace is a cab ride away but a consistently great neighbourhood bistro

I know you said Saturday night, but in the day BRGR and BEER in Mathews yard off the market is cool if you arrive and want a snack

I thought the standard answer would be "Don't stay in Croydon, it's a sthole"...

Has it improved since I was last brave enough to venture their some 15 or so years ago?

Strangest location for a restaurant ever. Great views but those car parks...

It is, I've always wondered what it was before it was a restaurant.

Try little bay in S.Croydon. Good quality food and very reasonable, they also have live opera night on a Friday night which is a bit of fun!

KKs Texan https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g5...

Simply epic portions and really tasty if that style of food appeals.

Drinks are a little pricey and its a small place so you'll need to book.

Thank you all very much for your advice. We are staying at the Jurys Inn, so ideally not too much of a walk to most of these. Junior wijit fancies the Texan, Mrs wijit is leaning towards Italian or thr Steak place. I''m just paying so my bote is not allowed!
