Ok I eat a lot of rice and use a basic plastic rice steamer in the microwave. I have tried a couple more plastic rice cookers but can't get along with them. Anyone have ceramic rice cooker? I have seen this one by Jamie Oliver and wonder if anyone has one and what their thoughts were.

Reviews look good, but if you really eat that much rice why not get a rice cooker?

Why would you bother with that? Just buy a normal rice cooker. It's 1 less thing to take up space on the stove and is very much a case of 'set it and forget it'. The only reason to get it is to seem like a posh git.

If you want to get serious and buy a rice cooker., then buy a rice cooker from nations where rice cookers are the norm. Not some celeb branded tat.

Japan- leading brand is Zojirushi
South Korea - leading brand is Cuckoo

I have a Cuckoo one.

I was always fascinated with rice cookers from the far east. Do they do it in english? I'm guessing no (actually looks like zojirushi do). Having a quick look, they're damn expensive. £170+.

'Damn expensive' for something that you use one in a while, is not damn expensive for something that you use several times a week smile My wife said the same when I purchased, now she would be out to buy another the day it broke!!

There is a Large Korean supermarket in SW London which brings them in, so you have warranty/Uk safe. They do cheaper ones that look like the one above and have few options, or the more expensive ones that have the screen and buttons to play with. Suspect the simple ones are just as good but went for fancy!

Mine keeps speaking to me in korean whilst it is cooking (no idea what its saying!), has a steam train type whoosh near to end as it lets out the steam then finally a cuckoo call at the end biglaugh Actual on screen options and button labels are in english

Very simple to use, stick rice in the pan, cover with water. Close lid and press a button- that's it. Keeps the rice warm all day too.

Would say hand made rice is slightly better, but for the convenience it can't be beaten.

We've got a rice cooker we bought from currys. Probably about 40 quid. Works great.
