I'm after a fairly cheap meat thermometer, particularly one which will indicate internal temps whilst cooking. So i'll either need a cheap wireless, or a corded probe.

Something like this:

or this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Umiwe-Wireless-Thermomete...

Anyone got a recommended one under £20? I'm thinking early so I can get it before Christmas to ensure a good Turkey temperature.

Spend an extra £4 and get a thermapen- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Classic-SuperFast-Thermap...

I used to have a cheap thing and comparing the 2 side by side it wasn't even close. Wouldn't be without one now.

OP: I had a couple of the cheaper ones, they didn't last. ISTR the probes stopped working after they had been in very hot ovens.

Do you really need something that will give real time core temps from a closed oven?

If not any of the cheapo probes will do. I have various from £5 to £100+, they are all within a degree or two of each other.

I've got this -grand sum of £14.99 in Lakeland -does the job nicely and you can watch the internal temp in real time without taking the beast out the oven.

actually watched an america's test kitchen video on this earlier today. maybe that helps? skip to the end if you just wana see which one they reccomended. all are accurate, so it's just down to personal preference with longer probes being favoured for obvious reasons.

The one I have has been used to cook rib of beef to perfection. Low and slow, getting the internal temp to 55 degrees. Was the best piece of beef I've had for years.

I get my cooking thermometers from ETI who do cheap and cheerful ones, all the way up to proper commercial catering sensors.

I ended up buying one from Ikea yesterday, named FANTAST. Tested this morning in a boiling kettle and it is accurate. Has a magnet and a stand and a nice legible display. Audible alarm when it reaches the temperature. For just over £7 quid, I think I'll get another next time I'm there. Perfect for barbecues in the summer!
