Decaffeinated coffee
Discussion
Does this mean you're going caffeine teetotal or is it just the first hit you're missing?
What type of coffee maker do you use?
I do 50/50 decaff & caff in a cafetiere. My current preference is for Lavazza decaff (which is quite fine, really for filter machine)/Waitrose monsoon Malabar

Jet

I made a switch about two years ago and found it hard to find one that really had any flavour.
There are a few ways decaff coffee is made and I always tried to go for the decaff that didn't use solvents - I'm just not keen on that idea. The best one I came across after trying many was Taylors which is available almost anywhere.

I find that it's the 'pot' of coffee that's the issue. If I have a cafetière, I find that the effects of the caffeine are more marked than when I make an espresso based drink.
While espresso has a greater caffeine per unit volume than drip or cafetière coffee, the volume of coffee in the resulting drink means an espresso based drink has an overall lower caffeine content

I think most generally available decafs use swiss water method these days.
Unless it's decaf espresso they tend to be medium roasted medium everything really. If you want the best taste possible I would go for the beans, grind immediately before using, filter coffee and perhaps use slightly more than you would normally just to give it more taste. Careful on this last point as you don't want it noticeably strong just flavoursome

Bit of a thread resurrection - I'm wondering which ground decaf to go for to use in a Gaggia Titanium machine. I tried a Lavazza one in the past but it was so finely ground that it clogged the brew unit in the machine really quickly. I'm not going caffeine teetotal - just wanting something I can have later in the day. I'll be sticking to my usual kick on a morning!
Is their normal coffee any good? If so that could be my answer.

Aldi's ground decaf is no different to their normal coffee, in my opinion!
Likewise. Both taste the same we used it to water down the full fat when the other half was pregnant. Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
