Its headline news !! No Courgettes - OMG

whats the big deal. why are people so worried about this 'shortage' ? They will be back in the shops in a few months time when the weather changes.

Go and open a tin of peas, for goodness sake.

It takes me back to the 1970s when lots of things were short. Lavatory paper is the one that immediately comes to mind. I was buying a half dozen packets of bay leaves for my sister in law in about 1972 because she couldn't get them in her local shops, and the till operator asked me if they were in short supply since I was obviously hoarding!

I recall those days too. Toilet paper is a much more 'pressing issue', ( or tissue), but the press seem to be getting all worked up about some veggies that are not available for a few months. Its hardly critical news, is it (?).

1973/74 UK petrol shortage springs to mind, also candle shortage due to the power cuts. We used to do homework by candlelight and tilley lamp light!

Back to veggies - pssst, wanna buy a lettuce mate, only one owner?

Iceberg lettuces apparently are scarce - tasteless things of little nutritional value anyway!

It's actually a major problem for caterers like me. I have to set and agree menus months ahead. Yes you can change things but not overnight. This coming week, even if I was able to pay the crazy prices my suppliers have no stock.

Yep and apparently Tesco were limiting iceberg lettuces to no more than 3 per person; errr who ever buys more than 1 iceberg lettuce at a time!

Not only peas, but a TIN of peas. No hope.

I'm guessing using a fruit machine counts as one of your 5 a day wink

Pubs and restaurants who can't get them from their regular suppliers?

If I went into a restaurant today, and was the menu had to be adjusted due to shortages, I'd be fine with it.

And so would I but there's a whole world of food outside of restaurants that is being affected by the shortages.

If you were out of bog roll wouldn't buying a swiss cheese plant have been more sensible as a replacement? Bay leaves are tiny and you'd get no coverage. I'm not even sure the smell would be worth it either.

My local Lidl was awash with iceberg lettuces yesterday, probably too posh for round here.
