I think quite a few of the old favourites were victims of a cull on alcopops driven by miserable government legislation.

Woody's Strawberry & Lime, Mac & Ernie's Alcoholic Cola, 20/20 all disappeared around the same time.

Others that probably just stopped selling so were delisted: V2, Metz, Castaway.

Castaway.
Does that not exist anymore? Sad times.

Used to be awesome with Diamond White (Blastaway) or with added Blue Bols (Blastyourballsaway). Ah, happy days. cloud9

Whilst working at the local Working Men's Club as a teenager we often made up a Blastaway in a pint pot which was topped up with vodka and swilled in one at the end of a shift before heading to town and into the nightclub.

Good times.

Hooch made a reappearance a few years ago didn't it?

Seems it's still available from most shops, that was definitely a drink from my youth as well as 20/20!

Global Brands (owners of VK, Corky's & Amigos among others) of Chesterfield bought the rights to the Hoopers and Hooch brands and re-launched them a few years ago. I think the original Hooch got in bother with the ASA due to the lemon cartoon character which hasn't made a re-appearance.

Lightweight, wasn't red stronger ?
It was indeed but it was also more expensive - 50p or maybe even a quid? When you're 15 in the late eighties that quid went a long way...

Leave a bottle of white open for a couple of weeks, add some vinegar, add the juice from a kiwi and a lemon and I reckon you wont be far off smile

When I first joined the RAF many years ago I was introduced to K cider and Stella pints, harder than the normal snakebite LOL. As for T bird and MD I can taste the vomit still, the water melon MD put me off water melons for the rest of my life LOL.

Scrumpy + Tennants Super for a lethal Snakebite.

Scrumpy + Tennants Super + Blackcurrant for a Purple Nasty ........ and potentially a very messy bathroom/bedroom/etc

Snake bite and black
Pernod nasty - snake bite and black with a double shot of Pernod.
Turbo Shandy - half a lager (probably grolsh) and half Birmingham university house table wine.
Cheeky vimto- blue Wkd with double shot of port.

Those got me through university.

Gold label barley wine

Still going strong after all these years and not been tarnished with the super strength superbeers.

Classic drink when you were not brewing your own from a kit bought at Boots ... those were the days... real (old) men used to brew their own,

ahem.

Mention of castaway reminded me of a drink that was served at our local in the early 90s named 'blastaway' that consisted of a bottle of castaway, a shot of vodka in a pint pot topped up with diamond white that was on draft.

happy times
