Just wondering what kinds of things I could cook with my incinerator. Any tips or thoughts?

Sweet potatoes.
Tin foil.
Wrap.
On.
Cook.
Take out.
Unwrap.
Cut.
Season.
Eat.

Probably a good place to start I guess. Do I put them on a grill over the fire? Do I put the lid to one side?

Got one of these:

I bought this mini incinerator today as I have a lot of papers to destroy. It looks like a quarter the capacity of yours.

How many bank statements will it take to cook a potato?

I suspect it depends on what you're burning and what toxins it may contain.

Good point. Will probably stick to wood. Maybe even charcoal ie stick to bbq-based fuel.

here's my attempt from a while back - posted on the steak thread

steak had the lovely flamed grilled/burnt edges. I need to do this again but with a bigger and better steak.

Did you buy it just to cook on?

Seems strange getting a incinerator, then feeding it with good wood and expensive charcoal to cook a potato laugh

That’s like buying a grundon bin and then only using it to throw away Egyptian cotton pillows so you can sleep in it.

Now we're talking! I guess I should try steak because if it isn't properly cooked, I won't spend the next week in the bathroom.

hehe

Have had one for a while to dispose of garden stuff as it was more fun than taking it to the tip.

I'm thinking that cooking on an incinerator would be very handy
It's large, stable, and you could fit quite a few layers /grills into it
Also, £11 down Wilko!!!
I'm worried about the use of petrol portrayed in on of the pics, though
Unnecessary, expensive and polluting
Not sure how your steak would taste!!! :confused

Welcome to PH.

I suspect the petrol is just to get it started and once the fire has gone down, there won't be any petrol to taint the meat.

laugh

the petrol was to get things started. I didn't need to use petrol but I did. It's more fun.

The fire was burning for over an hour before I cooked on on it. So don't worry my steak did not taste of petrol.

The bin in the pic has sadly fell apart this year. I'll be looking for a replacement in the spring. I've got a load of small trees and branches to get through which I cut down earlier this year.

Thanks for your concern.

I was thinking of getting an oil drum. I see folk selling them locally on ebay and gumtree.

not sure how easy it is to cut the top off it and then drill lots of holes round the lower half. Then again it's an opportunity to play with some power tools. biggrin

My local tesco were selling garden incinerators for £18, looked similar to the one in your pic. I had a look but they felt very flimsy. I'm not sure it would last long.
