ive never been one for food fads, my nan coated stuff in salt, used real beef fat(suet) and lived until 87. So it comes as no surprise to me hat coconut oil may not be the magic elixir it was reported to be.

Coconut oil 'as unhealthy as beef fat and butter'

All the time we hear that so and so is good for you and then a week down the line it isn't and can cause cancer, you saying the report says coconut oil is as bad as beef fat or butter; well I read a report a few months ago stating that butter wasn't as bad as first thought and in fact was far healthier than margarine, look at the days when my dad was a kid; post war, they all ate beef dripping on toast.

I don't listen to all that crap; everything in moderation and just be sensible and don't go overboard on proceed food; proceed food is the problem, stuffed full of salt and sugar.

I eat a wide variety of food, much of which is home made from scratch so I know exactly what I'm getting, I use many spices and herbs; many of which have been known for years to have good health properties, yet sometimes I'll indulge in a bit of "dirty" food.

As long as you eat sensiblely then you'll be fine.

I've never used coconut oil for cooking though, however it is good for dermatitis on my hands.

Before entering this thread I thought it was going to be how everyone eats avacado with everything and how ramen burgers are a thing, alas. That article reminds me of one I saw a while back where they said that honey and maple syrup is no better/healthier for you then having sugar syrup, no suprise really.

I guess this just means that people can not worry about having to use a stupid oil when making their stir fry. Use whatever.

the article might change, i think it the fact that a fat is marketed as healthy when it never was, or is.

i don't make all my food from scratch i eat food out and takeaways etc, but i have seen more and more people extolling the virtues of coconut oil as the new messiah, when it may not be.

As I understand it, coconut oil, while a form of saturated fat, is a medium chain fatty acid which shouldn't be judged in the same manner as other saturated fats. Of course, if credible information exists to suggest that it does more harm than good them I'm happy to stand corrected.

Saturated fats like beef and butter are not unhealthy at all. Maybe try
1. googling Mary G. Enig or
2. read the short version here: https://draxe.com/the-truth-about-saturated-fat/ or
3. stop reading the mainstream media about nutrition.

marg enig concentrated on soya oils etc being the issue, the real issue is the increase in carbohydrate consumption the past 100 years, along with general gluttony and sedentary lifestyles. Actually producing most carb laden food stuffs was very labour intensive until the industrial revolution, in the past fats being higher energy sources where used over a higher carb diet like today.

it the same principle why there is an increase in allergies and auto immune diseases over the past 200 years, which tie up with the lack of parasites in our body from cleaner meats. They have tested it with food and medicine to try and resolve when when the potential answer is there, reintroduce parasites into the gut.

Its not just processed food that has sugar in it. The amount of recipes that contain sugar is crazy and these are supposed to be savory dishes. At least if you are making them yourself you can leave the sugar element out.

Judging by Great British Menu, this year you can't have fruit or veg that's not been compressed.

Absolutely. But how about Harvard School of Public Health? Shall we stop reading their guidance too?

Not food itself but as soon as places stop serving everything on planks of wood I'll be a happy man.

Or meat or fish that hasn't been cooked in a water bath.

Yes! Someone on one of my social media networks posted a picture of a roast dinner with all the trimmings served on a plank last week. Where the hell is the gravy going to go?!
