Anyone know of a good quality Indian buffet style restaurant in Central London. I know good quality and buffet don't always go hand in hand but Chutney Mary used to do a Sunday lunch buffet which was fab. So it's not impossible

Looking for an all week one, for a Friday eve. Only thing I can find is Poppadum Ex[press in Bloomsbury, but the online pics don't look great and at just £13.85 a head, it doesn't fill me with confidence.

Happy to pay £50/head for the right thing.

Any suggestions.

I went to http://kitchinn1.co.uk/ a few years ago, wasn't bad. Not just curry though, does everything.

If not does it have to be a buffet? There are plenty of good restaurants in the east end, away from Brick Lane of course.

I've yet to come across one. Are there any you can recommend?

There's a place on the strand, aldwych end called something like the curry club. One of the oldest in town apparently. It's on the first floor of a hotel that is a bit like fawlty towers but they do good quality authentic Indian food and there's a choice of set menu where they keep bringing food out. BYOB too.

Unlikely to find a buffet on a Friday night. For good food though also look at tayyabs, Lahore kebab house, dishoom, gymkhana.

Really want a buffet, and just Indian.

There must be something somewhere, it's London ffs!

Why not go to the Lahore Kebab House. £50 per head (inc. BYO from the off-licence next door) will buy you enough food that you could pretend it's a buffet...

Many good suggestions here but I am a little confused OP. Why be prepared to pay big bucks but expect a buffet? I don' think you'll find what you want in central London. Buffets are usual in restaurants that are slightly struggling, no? Tayyabs or Lahore Kebab are excellent choices. For £50 per head you will be Buddha-like on food by the time you've eaten! Order half the menu and dig in!

"Expensive" and "buffet" are not frequent bedfellows.

I've never heard of an Indian buffet (do you mean all you can eat ?) - but I can recommend Dishoom which is a bit of a treat if you haven't been to one.

Masala zone is a pretty good meal too - it's posher than it's name suggests.

Or the Cinammon club in St James park.

Can you travel? Nawaab is a well known Manchester institution which opened up a place in London a few years ago, but is further out. I went when it first opened and wasn't a patch on the original, but reviews are good so maybe they got on top of it.

London has the best in a lot of thing, but the best Indian food places for me are still in the Manchester-Bradford areas.

Again not a buffet but have a look at Roti Chai https://www.rotichai.com/ It's Indian tapas and really good and has always been busy when we have been. Just seen they now do a more formal meal but we have only had the street food.

It's just north of Oxford Street, in between Marble Arch and Selfridges.

Chutney Mary is a top quality restaurant and they used to do a buffet, on a Sunday only. Expensive but fantastic. Just hoped there might be something similar around now. Appears not.

There is only one place in London and it's not central it's out at the old hoover factory on the A40 in Perivale and it's the Nawaab as mentioned above. They have a branch in Manchester and the food is great and feels like an Indian wedding.

Any other buffet place in the centre is generally Sunday only

Google Chutney Mary, they used to do a Sunday buffet. It was about £40 15 years ago. You had to book months in advance.

Might have to go for this. Been meaning to give it a go anyway, as it's only about 5 miles away from me.
