I have bought some of the hello fresh Kits from a supermarket and am tempted to sign up for the subscription service.

Does anyone else use them or any of the others that are available? What do you think? any meal reccomendations?

I got a voucher through to try them for a fiver and gave them a go. What we had was really good, all of it was fresh and we liked the meals. My intention was to get the package and just use the ingredients for other things, but the recipes in the first box we had were really good.

They then called me and did a deal where the box was £18 a week for a couple of weeks and as our son had just been born, we went for it out of convenience. There aren't really enough meal choices per week and I ended up using a few of the meals as ingredients for other recipes, but that might just be us as my wife doesn't like anything hotter than mild/medium and I don't like salmon (out of the 7 choices, 2 were salmon and 3 were 2 or 3 out of three on their heat scale).

Other than that, they've been good, but it works out a fair bit more money than just going to the shop.

Not a complete meal kit as you still need to buy some ingredients but the spicery is a must if you like curry I've cooked curries that are fantastic thanks to them others aren't so great but you live and learn and they are a lot healthier and no less tasty than a takeaway.

We've been using HF for a couple of months. We love it.

OH is a "pescatarian" which basically means we have to get the veggie box.but I'd even recommend that.

We find that it costs about the same as shopping normally but you get less of each ingredient. However that simply means less waste.

We also do 3 days per week.

I appreciate this is a slightly old thread but after using Hello Fresh boxes for a fortnight now I'm really impressed with the cost, convenience and variety of the meals. The meals have all been really tasty too.

As someone above posted we've gone for them due to time constraints with a new baby in the house. It's definitely still proper cooking and doesn't feel too expensive when compared to standing in M&S food stores scratching around for ideas about that evenings supper and leaving with £40 of shopping in the basket for a single meal!

Vietnamese rice was delicious. I'm going to make that one myself quite often.

Currently my g/f is in charge of the account. I think this needs to become a task for me though, I'm more likely to remember to select our meals in advance and she's more likely to just go for chicken every time.

I'm interested in these too. However how do they deliver? I'd be concerned that the delivery would either be left outside to self cook or with a neighbour who I don't see!

We did Hello Fresh and Gusto on introductory offers – but never really got on. Fairly regular missed items, things arrive with a short use by date. The customer service at Gusto was in particular very poor.

I really enjoy Simply Cook though – cheaper at £7.99 a box but they just deliver the spices etc. you need – allowing you to buy the fresh ingredients yourself – so you know the quality/life on them. So obviously not as convenient as it still requires a trip to the shop but every dish we’ve had has been really nice, and I’ve made some thing I otherwise wouldn’t have. Every so often they run offers for your first box for £1 (or through PerkBox those who have that through work – that’s where I tried it first) , so I’d recommend trying that and seeing how you get on.

We've done both HF and Gusto.

We stopped HF due to having meals delivered 4-5 times with missing ingredients. We preferred HF over Gusto as the Gusto meals seemed to be combining too many non-complementary flavours.

A major downside for us was the volume of recycling that mounted up - the cooking experience was generally good but often the preparation/cooking times were significantly underestimated.

We have a selection of recipe cards from the meals which we now order the ingredients for from Tesco for home delivery.

We’ve just signed up to a half price trial of Gousto - think it’s exactly the same premise as HF. Expect it’ll cost a fair bit more at full price than buying ourselves but then again with just two of us we end up wasting quite a lot of fresh veg and stuff. Main supermarket nearby is Aldi so we often buy a whole packet of something like leeks or onions when we only want a little.

It’ll be worth a try given that we’re looking to be more disciplined with portion control and calories.

Out of interest and aimed at the folk who had missed ingredients from HF deliveries. What type of thing was it missing> Showstoppers like the protein or something you may have had in like the herbs and spices?

That would be a fairly disappointing discovery, I think I might start checking the bags when they get delivered.

I don't think we ever had missing protein - it was normally something like fresh herbs or a lemon/lime/ginger for flavouring/piece of celery.

Occasionally we had ingredients 'on the turn'.

We know other people who've been with them for ages and never had anything missing.

We’ve been with Gousto about a year now. When the meals they offer we want you want to eat, they’re good. But recently, the choice has not been good. So we ventured over to Hello Fresh. We never even got our first box, as they cancelled it for us. Then it took a month to get put money back. Utter st.

Anyone using Hello Fresh I'd advise to look out for the Caramelised Halloumi with minted freekeh pilaf and roasted red pepper meal. It's delicious!

Or, just make it yourself. The halloumi glazed with mango chutney was great. I usually use a dry rub on it, never thought about that.
