I've been in search of the ultimate snack for a long time and suspect I'm not alone in my quest!

It's a tough brief. A snack needs to be tasty, readily available and most importantly quick! If you get the urge to snack the moment must be captured in under 15mins I reckon and ideally a lot, lot quicker than that!!

I've flirted with pre-made supermarket solutions, plumbed the depths of Fray Bentos and even rode the high seas of grime to the isle of Pot Noodle before now but this is an unsatisfactory solution to a serious problem.

I briefly thought I'd found the ultimate snack when I successfully recreated the the McMuffin...

But ultimately there's only so many of these you can eat before feeling sick and they leave you feeling pretty gross.

I also experimented with a KFC recreation which came out well but essentially relies on bucket loads of salt to reach a true representation of the colonel's poultry scran. Totally fails the faff test too...

So before I hand over to you for your own Ultimate Snack go to's I'd like to share my absolute fave...

It could be considered slightly cheaty as it requires bit of pre-prep in that the main ingredient (Chicken Tikka) is pre-cooked on a bbq and sits in a tupperware in the fridge or freezer ready for snackage. But hey, roll with me here!

- Tikka Pockets -

The aforementioned Tikka cooked in batches and held for Tikka Pocket glory:

Acquire some of these awesome soft bread thingies from your local Waitrose. Can be frozen and chucked in the toaster. DO NOT TOAST, just warm them through so they are still soft an doughy.

We eat a lot of hot food so I pretty much always have a bowl of mint raita in the fridge but it takes minutes to knock up and will keep well this brings essential cool freshness with lots of coriander and mint.

Pop some chicken in the microwave for 1 min which should be all the prep time you need. Dollop raita on both sides of warm bread...

Add chicken and your favourite hot sauce (I recommend the classic sriracha it seems to work really well)

Finish with finely shredded iceberg lettuce

Boom! Nom nom nom etc

Total prep time 2 mins assuming the other bits and pieces are on hand. Can provide tikka recipe if anyone wants to give it a bash.

So what you snackin' on?

Cheapo supermarket mince and onion pie. A good sprinkle of cheese on top then a minute or two in the microwave. Stick between two slices of buttered bread. Nom nom.

(Or possibly fk! fk! as you strip the lining of your mouth with molten gravy)

used to eat tons of these patties in my uni days. 50sec to microwave. aroubd 70p in asda.

They used to sell samosas and bhajis individualy at the deli counter but for some reason no longer do it anymore, i really miss that. If i wanted a snack i'd get maybe 2-3. or if I couldn't be arsed I'd have about 10 as a meal.

15 mins? Can just about make a "Purgah". (What the kids call my "Posh Burger" recipe)

Half pound beef mince, 20% fat is fine
Parsley
Egg
Equal amounts of breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese (about 1/3 cup each)
Salt/Pepper

Toasted brioche bun.
Bacon cooked at same time as burger.
Relish of your choice.

1 is a tasty snack, 2 is a lunch, 3 is a meal.

I always have leftover taters in the fridge; mash, new, roasted, boiled, whatever...
Mostly, a dash of salt and pepper is all that's needed. Pretty much instant satisfaction.

Reckon a batch of those separated by baking paper and frozen could be a good option!

You don't need the filler if your using alright mince. I get the stuff that's packaged instore at Morrisons. The form patties easier if the meat is at room temperature.

Mince, salt, pepper, a bit of onion powder and garlic powder. Chuck whatever other herbs and spices you fancy in, form into patties and grill on a very hot griddle. I make mines about 1.5 inches thick and grill for about 5 minutes a side. You can grill the buns on the griddle too. From pack of mince to tasty burger in about 15 mins.

Obviously you can us a hot frying pan and/or grill if you don't have a griddle pan.

Cut the crusts off 10-12 slices of bread then roll the slice flat, fill with Tuna and roll (as if making a roll-up) dip into raw egg mix then roll in bread crumbs then fry till bread is browned, allow to cool and refrigerate then snack as desired! smile

Lob some lamb steaks in a pan until nice and pink in the middle, toast some naan breads in the toaster.

Whilst lamb is cooking mix up some diced cucumber with natural yoghurt and some lemon juice.

Assemble by slicing the lamb, add lettuce, onion, the yoghurt and cucumber and some chilli sauce if you want to spice it up a bit.

It's like the best kebab that will ever pass your lips and so simple. Takes about 5 minutes to make from scratch
