I think my pie fascination in the past few weeks has led to some weight gain!

I know it sounds crass and probably not what you want to hear. But Sainsburys do some decent pies, i just feel that there aint enough filling.

Is local butcher always the best. Or do you guys know of any places online?

Thanks

Might be worth looking for a local farm shop. We get better pies there than our local butcher.

Have you had a go at making your own?

I like very deeply filled pies and most shops or delis do not use as much filling as I would like, for cost reasons

Sausages - Porky Whites Surrey sausages. Sainsburys sell them near us.

Pies - make your own. By far the best way smile . The Higgidy cookbook has some great recipes.

There is a butcher in Urmston that does a good pork pie (PJ Howarth). They sell out usually pretty early.
As for shop bought, I would say Toppings are the best. You cant really find them at many supermarkets though.

Problem with all these what is your best pie is the fact someone comes up with -

"Well my local butchers in the Amazon does a real good cannibal pie which contains the brains of the last missonary"

Sadly that entails a trip around the south section of the M25 for me .... would have to stop off for a Ginsters steak slice at Clackett lane !

These both are good pies from Tesco's

Are they the best pie ever? No, I make those, these kick above their weight though and are good for a friday night with an extra large portion of chips from the chippy. You have to eat both though at the same time for full effect. The crust to pie filling was top notch when first brought out, hopefully they have not cost cut in the meantime.

Another vote for Kitsons in Northallerton. Their pork and apple pies are delicious.

Yes.

Because they actually give a toss about their product, because the person making it is looking into the eyes of the person buying it.

As far as sausages go, I've never once found a supermarket sausage that doesn't shrink massively and end up in a pool of fat in the oven. In the rare event I find a butcher's sausage that does that, I simply go to a different butcher in future.

If you're anywhere near NW M25, then Higgins in Chorleywood always used to be superb.

PS their pasties are pretty good too although you probably want them fresh out of the oven.

Farm shops are usually good. A monthly market at our local farm shop has a stall run by Shirleys pies and they are amazing!!

Can't beat a good old chip-shop pie from anywhere north of Coventry.

Any Scotch pie. Once it's deep fried you can't tell the difference anyway.
