The items resembled sausge rolls and were about the same size. They were in some sort of flaky pastry (choux?).
Inside, they were filled with soft cheese and the roll ends had strands of grated cheese embedded in the filling. They were served cold .
The nearest thing Google has to offer is Gougères. These are 'airy cheese puffs' but are spherical and contain gruyere. The cheese in the snacks I found was very mild and only the grated ends tasted especially 'cheesy'.
Any ideas/ info gratefully received.
