Fantastic isnt it, cheap, delicious and good for you, whats not to like ?
However, need some ideas to give it some variety,
I tend to make it with semi skimmed milk, pinch of salt if I remember, bit of sugar.
Other options are using a spoonful of honey, jam or Nutella, not much though as its easy to ruin it, dessicated coconut is great as well.
Also, guilty secrete, if there is ever any left over double cream, a swirl of that on the top is great.
Any suggestions ?

My mother's porridge was made with gold top milk and topped with lots of butter and brown sugar, unfortunately these days gold top is considered unhealthy so my wife makes it with semi skimmed and has cut down the amount of butter and brown sugar that I'm allowed, still good though and had it this morning.
Occasionally as a special treat we go Irish and pour over a large slug of Baileys, try that, it's awesome!

Our other once a week treat is a fry up though and if we don't go out for breakfast I do cook that, in fact bacon, egg, mushrooms, beans and hash browns are on the menu today.
Conversly of course I did do early this morning to watch the grand prix but that has just finished so I'm about to wake her up with a cup of tea before getting breakfast under way.
Jumbo whole rolled oats is a must, not this instant got the life milled out of it mush. Semi skimmed milk, but full fat is better if we have any, v rare occasions. Chuck in some raisins, sultanas and a couple of chopped dates. Microwave, it's one of the few things where the microwave produces a good result, plus saves washing up.
Personally it needs no extra sweetener with the dates, dried fruit etc. But can recommend, if you must, maple syrup, or a swirl of cream and spoon of honey.
However that Caramel Carnation idea looks interesting, just got to work out how to swing it past the My Way or the Highway shopping nazi.

I have never made my own porridge from scratch. I've always bought the instant oats that can be done in 2min.
For me it's the quickest thing to eat in the mornings. no chewing needed, head up, cool slightly and wolf down, no need to chew unlike toast or cereal. have to say though, I am getting bored of topping it with one of the following
1- nutella
2- jam
3- peanut butter.
