Off to Munich next Monday, and looking for recommendations on places to eat and drink (after receiving excellent suggestions for previous destinations on here).

It's a trip for leisure with my cousin, so we're looking for brewpub type places with decent food rather than fine dining.

Thanks!

Beer halls! Augustiner Großgaststätte and Hofbräuhaus are the classics, but there are plenty of others

Ayinger is the best in town but if you head a little bit south visit Giesinger Bräu (Martin-Luther-Straße 2) as it the best of all the beer halls and there are hardly any tourists.

Just been there two weeks ago, done a fair bit of research as time was limited.

Had a great lunch and beer here... Wirtshaus Zum Straubinger. Order the meat platter, its great and unfiltered beer.

Augustiner Keller was great. Very busy. Pork knuckle and any beer.

Donsil next to the town hall was good for drink and food. Brewed their own.

Generally all the historic town was great. West side the best.

If your near the main Munich train station, avoid the walk to the historic town (East to West). Get a taxi. There's two blocks of town which are strong Arabic areas and feel really uncomfortable when you walk through and feel really st areas (not racist, but you'd see what I mean). You literally just stumble upon them.

Great city. Enjoy.

Thanks everyone, gives us loads to go at there!

Just paid it forward giving a colleague a list of places I tried recently in Barcelona (some of which I was advised on here)

We've been, we saw, we ate, we drank!

Thanks for the tips, by time we arrived the first day it was getting late, but we managed to stumble straight into Donisl which was excellent, so much so we decided to eat there on the final night too.

Beer halls are fantastic, as suggested Augustiner Großgaststätte and Hofbräuhaus are really good, also found Ayinger and we think tried every Beer Garten in the Englisher Garden.

It was an excellent trip, save for the behaviour of a few unruly Celtic fans who behaved appalling leaving the main square at Marienplatz covered in glass, crates and empties.
