We all know that there are plenty of utterly dreadful supermarket own brand products which are a pale imitation of the original branded item, but there are also some out there which are at least as good, if not better!

Given that the branded items are always cheaper as well, it wouldn't hurt to have somewhere for people to suggest some?

Assuming we've not done this before, I'll get the ball rolling with Sainsburys Salted Peanuts. Not much more than half the price of KP peanuts, but actually (to my palate) nicer!

This is a rare find, as every other brand of peanuts I've tried (whether branded or supermarket) has been extremely disappointing.

Sainsburys taste the diff version of baileys. To me it’s better and usually on offer at about 30-40% less than baileys. But i only drink it in coffee over Christmas. For breakfast lol

I prefer the taste of Sainsbury's own ketchup and brown sauce to Heinz or HP.

Are you sure?

I'm quite happy to shop in M&S for quite a few food items, but a significant percentage of what they sell is dire. I never buy chicken from M&S, and their ketchup is not a patch on Stokes. It's also worth noting that 20 years ago, the only things you could buy in an M&S foodhall was branded "St Michael" and now you can buy pretty much any major brand.

My kids prefer Tesco or Morrisons own brand crisps over Walkers or Seabrooks. They say the own brand ones are thinner and crispier in their opinions.

I'm not going to argue as they are cheaper!

I think most of Lidl own brand stuff is just as good if not better in some cases. (Waiting for the wrath of PH powerfully build directors)

Maybe of the exception of the butter (lurpack rip off), its not very good.

If you mean the ones in the blue bags, I fully agree. The really cheap ones in the orange and white bags are revolting though.

Sainsbury's dark chocolate at 50p a bar is excellent as is their bottled IPA at £1.50.

Waitrose English Breakfast Tea.

On par with the Twinings et al offerings, at a fraction of the price.

supermarket baked beans are nicer than Heinz (whose beans are too hard) and their own brand crunchy peanut butter (not the value stuff tho) is nicer than the fancy stuff

Sticks.

'Healthy' breakfast cereals, bran flakes, Weetabix etc. The known brand ones are all so sweet compared to Tesco's.

Agreed about M&S, like anywhere, some good, some not so good.

Morrison's Fruit and Fibre copy has far more fruit in it that Kellog's Fruit and fibre.
Unfortunately if you like fibre more than fruit, then you will have to buy the Kellogs stuff.

Morrisons own steak pies taste better than Birds eye ones and even contain more beef, their own brand quarter pound beef burgers taste better than Birds eye and again contain more beef and less onion, Morrisons own brand bacon rashers (crisps) taste better than frazzles.

Most Waitrose and M&S products are as good or better than items perceived by some to be ‘premium” brand
