Hi all

Its my dads 60th in 2 weeks. He had asked for a Google Home so i have bought him that with a ChromeCast but i would also like to get him a nice bottle of Vodka since he like a glass or 3 in the evenings. He has it straight of course.

Can anyone recommend a good vodka?
I am after something a bit different. Happy to spend £40-£50.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Nick

Stolichnaya Elit - hard to go wrong with that - just make sure its ice cold before serving. If drinking neat, I tend to freeze the glasses, not the vodka.

If you want to give him the full story, it's a "single estate" vodka, made in East Scotland from the potatoes grown on their own land. From field to bottle, they do it all. Plus, it's potato based, while 99% of vodka you get is made from grains, so something a bit different.

Sláinte!

Dan Aykroyd's Crystal Head Vodka is terrific.

Won loads of awards and the bottle is worth keeping afterwards!

Best I have tried is Snow Leopard, and coincidentally Snow Queen . Perhaps the first has just the edge.

Another vote for Chase (supposed to be the best in the world). Don't drink freezing cold though, I keep mine and a could of glasses in the fridge and serve without ice.

I bought the 3 litre bottle. It's huge. Not finished it yet. But I will probably do the same. I think most people do. Apparently even the empty bottles make decent money on eBay. Or people turn them into lamps.

+1 for Chase - it's a great vodka.

And also a very interesting story, set up from the proceeds from the sale of Tyrell's crisps and distilled in the UK (Herefordshire).

You can also have a distillery tour for only a few quid.

I think Chase is rank.

Rough and utterly overhyped.

If feeling spendy, I'd go for Russian Standard 'Platinum' and serve it fridge chilled as they do in Eastern Europe - never from the freezer.

Purity Vodka is my favourite; small batch, all natural, distilled 30 odd times, unfiltered and multi-award winning - smooth as butter.

Yeah - have a few crystal heads floating about the place as well!

If you want a traditional Russian Vodka, I'd recommend Youri Dolgoruki Vodka - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youri_Dolgoruki_Vodk...

One of the best grain vodkas I have ever tasted, silky smooth.

Reviews - http://vodkaphiles.com/reviews/custrevsing/?Vodka=...

Can be a pain to find though.
