Seen a few posts regarding fish and chips and what fish people prefer, so I asked in the office.

Bit of a mix here between either here, and some people really don't care.

I always go for cod, just the classic, and it's normally cheaper.

Other thoughts?

Always haddock for me. It’s not that I don’t like cod I just think haddock has more flavour

Most don't care as in general most can't tell the difference betwen the 2

I don't like Haddock, has an odd flavour to me.
Cod is just classy in my book. Great texture and quite tasty if cooked right.

There's no taste to Cod, that's why it's so popular. The wife hates "fishy tasting fish", so eats Cod and sometimes Salmon. When I cook kippers or haddock she thinks it's vile.

Haddock for me, as I want something that has it's own taste without you having to add a whole load of stuff to it just to make it tasty.

I grew up in the South West so it was always Cod, my Wife is from Grimsby so started to eat Haddock, I would never order Cod now.

Haddock for me, has more flavour in my opinion. I love just about all fish though!

Haddock for me, more flavour, and I seem to remember that stocks of haddock weren't as depleted as cod in our waters, so at one time (maybe still is) it was an ethical choice too.

Pollack is also very nice, not much different to cod, but for some reason just not popular/used.

I love salmon, but have always thought of it as being quote fishy. Certainly not like cod, which is quite bland.

Haddock for me - suppose a lot of us like what we grew up eating. Cod I find either too fishy/watery - but that's my take on it.

Given a choice I would always go for haddock. Cod seems less 'meaty' and more 'watery'.

Well I thought so too. So when she said she liked salmon I was a bit like "Are you high or just dim".

Pollack isn't great IMHO. It doesn't have the firm texture that Cod has.
I used to do a fair bit of boat fishing off the Kent coast, Cod would be for the table, Pollack for the cats!
When there was concerns about the Cod stocks, Pollack was touted as a sustainable substitute.

I've heard that some people prefer to eat Haddock because it is typically caught further North in deeper, colder and cleaner water than Cod.

I know pollock, but never heard of pollack. Always liked it.
Google says it's not a typo but a different fish, though sometimes confused.

If there’s a choice I’d go haddock but normally it’s just boring cod. Very rare I’d go for chips over another type of fast food though it’s very boring.

I've always gone for 'pollack' over 'pollock'.
Wikipedia actually says this:
' Pollock, alternatively and more commonly among anglers spelled pollack'

And as my post indicated, I'm an angler...

Aye, I'm a Cornwall dweller much of the year, so Pollack it is.

In Hull, Haddock would be first choice of many, including mine.

As a kid I was warned not the eat Cod, because it is a bottom feeder so it gets worms (only half true).

Haddock has a much more meaty flesh and some taste, while Cod is bland and milky.

Traditionally, Haddock was considered by-catch and the Cod was the valuable fish sent to market.

Haddock for me and this is the default fish up here in the north. I've noticed on my travels that down south cod is the default fish and if you ask for haddock they look at you like you've got two heads.

I agree with other posters that haddock has substance to it - it's a bit chewy and has a really nice taste. Cod on the other hand is just bland, tasteless and crumbles into pieces if you so much as look at it.
