Suggestions please for a one off restaurant, budget (reasonably) unlimited, seafood preferred but not compulsory, location - anywhere.......

Well, it certainly fits the bill regarding "location-anywhere" given that it's beneath a dual carriageway underpass in Nottingham, but at least they've closed the cigarette factory next door now.

It's been a while since I've been, but the food used to be great, the atmosphere poor (think John Lewis furniture showroom) and the management self-absorbed to the extreme. However good the food, it didn't compensate for the shortcomings.

With 86% of Tripadvisor reviews stating outstanding/5* I'll take my chances.

Doesn't look particularly under any underpass

Yep, still there. Flyover one side, the Lenton Lane industrial estate to the other.

You might enjoy it. I did a couple of times, but eventually the experience didn't match the hype.

I haven't been for a few yrs, but the reviews are still good so I'd like to think they've maintained there stds. They major on fish and seafood, with nice views to boot.

Or something different,

http://rileysfishshack.com/

Lovely food, probably about 1/50th of the price of a lot of the others named.

Raved about by certain critics

Nathan Outlaws or The Sportsman.

Both easily in top 10 restaurants in the UK, both Seafood biased, Outlaw more so.

Both about 500 miles from each other. hehe

I've eaten at The Sportsman. Superb.

The best restaurant I've eaten at - by far - in this county is The Man Behind The Curtain http://www.themanbehindthecurtain.co.uk/ - Michael O'Hare's Leeds restaurant.

I'm booked into The Black Swan at Oldstead in January, officially the best restaurant in the world according to Trip Adviser, where Tommy Banks is the Head Chef - http://www.blackswanoldstead.co.uk/

Been to the Black Swan several times, although not for a few years. It is first class - definitely one of (if not the) best place I've eaten.

Looked at going there a few weeks back but couldn't get over the price and leaving hungry.

It's not great is it.

On a slightly separate note. The waiting list here is normally 3 months, but occasionally there are cancellations which they post on their page, and one came up for tonight, so we're going for Sarah's birthday treat. If anyone is interested in a mini review let me know.
It comes highly recommended to me, but for £220 for two before wine it wants to be the best food I've ever tasted!

Last time I was there I think we paid £510 with tip for two of us. It would probably have been the tasting menu, I cannot recall what we drank.

Was it great food? I'm hoping it shall be!
