Sorting out the Christmas night out for my team and need a restaurant:

  1. 7 People
  2. Thursday evening
  3. ~£45 for 2 courses maximum
  4. Anywhere in London (we're all coming from out west), but drinks before and after so a consideration.
  5. No preference on type of food
  6. Must be 'Interesting' in some way..

I considered Duck and Waffle but can't get a table. I've had a scan through the stickied thread above but places were either too expensive or didn't really jump out.

Temper City?

Temper Soho would be the preference but you will be highly unlikely to get a table at this point

I have found Biershenke is a funny old place. Yes it ticks most of the bierkeller boxes; decent German bier in big steins, staff in lederhosen, comedy oompah band playing modern singalong tunes, and the food is basic, germanic in style and plentiful. It's also very close to Liverpool street so convenient for city workers and to get home.

But it's not a very atmospheric or interestingly decorated place. Apart from some Bavarian flags and wooden tables it's literally a couple of box shaped rooms (one with no windows - but not in a nice, cellary way!) with air con pipes running around the ceilings and plain plastered walls which reflect all the sounds and make it a very noisy place.

We had a good laugh at Blues Kitchen on Curtain Road - big busy barn of a place with big bar, booths for diners and live music later on. BBQ was not overly exciting but had a good laugh there a couple of times with group of colleagues.

I enjoy the Relais. I like the simplicity of the menu and you can't go far wrong with steak, chips and salad done well and washed down with lots of red wine! smile There's one in Marylebone so you don't need to get over to the City.

That's a cool concept, I like it. Will put it forward for some balance. Cheers!

If you're out west:

Otherwise these cover a variety of tastes

But you can't book the last one, although you might be able to sweet talk them if you've got 7 and its a while in advance.

I find the big easy good value on the Monday - Friday specials night but too expensive for pretty standard fare outside of those times.

Always busy though so i know it has plenty of fans (Kings Road)
