We're off to see a play, and fancy eating somewhere south of the river.

Not sure she'd like the Oxo Tower, but wondering if PHers have any recommendations in the area before I resort to Trip Advisor?

Budget is up to £100 each. We eat almost anything (except for killer curries). Would be nice to have interesting rummy cocktails available.

Thanks - it's a possible. Will show the menu to Her Indoors and gauge the response.

Chop House was my favourite when I lived in Shad Thames
Pont de la Tour is nice and a bit posher
Bengal Clipper for a decent curry, especially the fish ones
Oxo is good for the view but expensive for what it is (nice to go there though)

NB I've not been to any of the above recently but am told they're still as I remember them

Hawksmoor Borough Market
Rabot 1745 (chocolate themed!)
Fish
Roast
Ivy Tower Bridge
Gaucho Tower Bridge

Off the top of my head. Loads to choose from!

All PH jokes aside, I'd definitely NOT recommend the Oxo. Very expensive, cramped and the food isn't all that either.

Thanks all. Now whittled the list down to Gaucho or Pont de la Tour.

Both do well on the review sites, more or less equal in overall rating and very few "terrible" marks.

PH I am disappointed. No jokes about taking her up the Oxo Tower? Shame on you all!

Correction, mistook Hawksmoor for this place https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1...

Ate here this week was about £40 quid per head with some wine. Tapas style dishes and was very nice quality.

Los Lobos also had some amazing tapas and went there a few weeks ago, heartily recommend.

+ 1 on pont de la tour - or chop house if you are a carnivore.

Gaucho's are overpriced and past their best to me, massively formulaic.

Roast is reliably good and you can have a quick pint at the Wheatsheaf, the Swan by the globe is decent as well but the view is outstanding.

Brindisa at Borough Market is my favourite tapas place in town - very difficult to get a table at times, but the Padron peppers or lamb cutlets alone make it worthwhile.

This. Very poor. The chairs don't fit the table so you end up sitting too far back, and the food wasn't good enough nor hot enough. Service was crap as well.

Tend to agree on Gaucho. But Roast is also a bit meh IMO. OK buy nothing great.

Brindisa is superb.

If you're having a drink in Borough Market then there's only one pub for me - Market Porter. Pint of Harvey's Sussex Best please. My favourite pub/drink in town.

Evs. Fantastic Turkish food, great restaurant.

One minute from Southwark Station, under the arches.
