Looking for a nice mild olive
Discussion
Hi All,
I want to eat more olives as I am trying to improve my diet. I have had nice-ish ones in restaurants and some absolutely disgusting ones. I find most of them too bitter, but usually I treat them like English mustard or Marmite in that I just need a little for flavor, but wouldn't want a whole mouthful.
Can anyone recommend a mild variety that I can pickup in one of the usual supermarkets?
I've recently discovered that the best lunch in the world is a can of mackerel (or other fatty fish) in tomato tipped into a couple of wholemeal wraps with rocket. Really healthy, tasty and unbelievably quick to make with minimal washing up
. I think some mild olives would be a good addition. Preferably small ones that are pre-stoned so I can just chuck them straight in from the jar.

Lovely things, creamy almost.
Waitrose does various own versions and I think Jamie does his own as well. They will have the stone in, but that's what makes them lovely, I always find that if you've got plain olives in brine/oil, then they don't taste anywhere near as nice as stone in - unless they're marinated in garlic/chill etc et of course, but that's adding flavour, rather than tasting of olive.
Have them on the side of the wrap instead.
ETA - I am aware that these don't fit either your "small" or "pre-stoned" criteria.

Thanks, I'll have a look out for the others mentioned. Kalamata olives are on special offer in my local Lidle at £1.99 today so I picked up a jar just to try them after all these recommendations. I won't be putting them in my wrap as they contain the stones, but if they are that good they might be nice to nibble on at work.
I've also discovered the correct word is "pitted" not "stoned"
