The missus has been given a £100 voucher to use for a meal. Aside from the oxo tower, what have I not thought of.

Pont de la tour and Sushi Samba are out. Anything else recommended?

We can obviously top up the budget.

Thanks for your recommendations in advance.

I liked the Merchants Tavern if you want something a little more laid back but still good food.

Other than that Coq is good as are both of the restaurants on top of 20 Fenchurch St - good views there too

If a voucher, no restrictions on where it can be used?

Had a very good meal at MNKY HSE in Mayfair a few weeks ago if you like Latin American food. Its quite loud in there though, so may not be ideal for a romantic date

They've put that up a hell of a lot, I remember it not long ago being £52 - I must admit, I didn't check though.

Blame Brexit, ...probably.

Fay Maschler gave Rambla 5 stars, she doesn't do that very often, should you take any notice of critics of course - however she's undoubtedly got more credibility than others such as the complete s that are Dent or Sitwell.

I haven’t been to Rambla, but two people I know that have, said that it was the best Spanish/Catalan type cuisine they’d had outside of Madrid or Barcelona.
My two favourite restaurants are Coq d’Argent, at number 1 Poultry, and Sauterelle, at the Royal Exchange, Threadneedle Street, both in the City of London.
Another that is quite good, but cannot match the ambience and decor of those two, is Union Street Café, Great Suffolk Street, SE1, excellent Italian food, marred only by being part of the obnoxious Gordon Ramsay’s group.

The Laughing Gravy near Waterloo is my absolute favourite in town. Wonderful, creative food, pretty laid back place, not in any way hipster/pretentious and no big name to pay for.

3 courses for 2 with a couple of drinks and a tip is ~£150. Could easily do £100 with two courses and a glass of wine.

Walked past both last night. Rambla was half empty, Barrafina rammed as usual.
Had a look at Rambla's menu and it seems pretty uninspired.
I'll stick to Barrafina I think!

Otherwise Copita is another great little tapas place in Soho, menu changes regularly and it's not the usual bks tapas dishes like patatas bravas and croquetas.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Paternoster Chop House @ St Pauls and also Brasserie Blanc near Waterloo on the South Bank.

I could name 50 places, but they might all be useless if they don't meet your criteria.
- What food do you like/hate?
- Where in London do you like to visit?
- What features do you want from a restaurant (a view? laid-back?)?
