There's bound to be a South African shop somewhere near to you, I drive to a couple of different ones nearby, and the biltong is great, as is the droewors (if you like biltong you'll love it) and chili-bites.....all that with a beer and some green tabasco sauce, sorted !

Whereabouts in the country are you? When I lived in Bournemouth I bought it from a South African shop in Christchurch. Now my local butcher makes his own although he usually sells out pretty quickly.

I make my own, but the Biltong from the Chichester Biltong Company is excellent.

Place in Grantham is good - https://www.thebiltongfarm.com

Don't rate stuff from Berkshire Biltong, tasted like soft chewy beef dipped in vinegar.

https://barefootbiltong.co.uk/ is pretty good. I tend to put a large order into them every month or so. They do a decent paleo selection too if that's your thing, and can order by fat/moisture content too.

Make it yourself, there was a big thread on it a while back. Pretty easy to do.

Susman's in Newhaven knocks spots off the rest. This is what's sold in Harrod's.

I ordered about 5kg from Biltongdirect.co.uk in the winter and it took me bloody ages to eat but it was delicious.

I prefer the big strips with the lowest moisture content possible.

My tips - don't bother with the stuff with fat on it, it's unpleasant and you'll just end up cutting it off. If you do buy it in big strips instead of the pre-cut stuff then cut it up with a bread knife or a serrated steak knife, or you'll just knack your teeth if you try to eat it whole. This might not be an issue if you get the wetter stuff but I prefer it dry and heavily seasoned.

Get some droëwors too, they're delicious.

This. Our local butcher stocks it and our SA friends rate it highly.

Tried some droëwors and biltong from Biltongdirect.co.uk, both very nice.

I've just finished £50 worth of biltong and droëwors from biltong direct.co.uk. It was absolutely brilliant. I will try another supplier for comparison.

My preference is for very dry, very lean beef. I think I'll find some chilli droëwors and garlic or paprika biltong for the next round.

I picked up 1kg of biltong from Best Biltong in Kingston today. Can anyone advise the best way to store it? I'll get through it reasonably quickly but don't want it to go mouldy before I manage to finish it.

Just keep it in a cool, dark place away from moisture and it'll last ages.

Based off this recommendation, I bought some from this site last week and it's good, but not great biltong. I still think the best supplier in the UK is Biltong Direct.

The Susman's stuff tastes nice (thankfully, as I've a bag of garlic, chilli and 'basic' to get through) but it's very, very salty. I also prefer solid strips that I can chew up. This sliced and shredded stuff isn't bad, but I like getting my teeth into a really dry, cured strip of beef and shredding it to pieces. I ordered dry with minimal fat but it's still a bit wetter than the best stuff I've had. I could happily eat a whole strip of BD biltong in one go, but this Susman's stuff is so savoury and salty, I don't think I could eat even half as much in one sitting.

I'll enjoy eating this biltong but I'll stick with Biltong Directin future. They are pretty much equal in price.

Tried biltong direct as well. Very good quality and service. They even found a way to ship relatively cheaply to Germany. Recommended.
