Sainsburys have reduced the weight of the 8 slice bacon pack from 300g to 250g. They do this by making the slices thinner.

So now my weekend bacon sarnie feels under filled and I fear I will have to add an extra slice, grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

At the moment the price has reduced accordingly but I would bet that won't last long.

mad Noticed this on Friday. My and my lad get a steak each for Sunday lunch every other Friday when he comes over. Regular as clockwork for about a year. This week we were stood there looking at these measley little steaks with the same sense of incredularity as the time KFC had no chicken.

We took an executive decision to feck Sainsburys and get our steaks from Costco.

Pack of 4 full size Aberdeen Angus steaks in the fridge waiting for lunch tomorrow. lick

Feck you Sainsburys for meddling. Did you really think people woudn't notice the reduced steak size along with the reduced price? Especially as the reduced steak outstrips the reduced price so I'm actually being asked to pay more per mouthful.

Wasn't too long ago when you could get 10 garlic bread slices for £1 in Sainsbury's now it's 9 for £1.60!

I did try that a while back. They were too thick for my liking and twice the price.

are the slices thinner or have they removed some excess water?

In any case, as has been mentioned on here: good bacon = local butcher

And have you never heard of this new-fangled idea of going to a this big place where everything you need for sale all under 1 roof ?

Actually I have checked the local butcher in the past when the OH has been in buying stuff. I can't say the fillet steaks on display looked anything special and they were certainly no cheaper.

Then find a decent local butcher who can probably even identify which farm it came from.

Good steak never sees a wretched vacuum pack.

What utter nonsense.
I used to buy vacuum packed Wagyu, it was pretty good steak.
All this butcher is best crap is simply not true. A GOOD butcher might be best, but they are not all good.
I went to my local butcher for dog bones, but he never had any because all his meat comes pre cut. He also didn't know what bacon bones were.

fair play on that. I've been spoiled since the butchers I've used on a regular basis over the last 15 years have been award-winning ones
