Will be spending a couple of months on a project near Moorgate station, anyone familiar with the streets around this area, able to recommend any hidden gems?
You're right in the heart of The City, so there are hundreds of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, what sort of thing are you looking for?Leadenhall, Spitalfields, Broadgate, Barbican, Smithfield, Bank/Cheapside, Bishopsgate, etc, etc are all within very easy walking distance, so you have literally the full spectrum from the lowest of the low up to the poshest of the posh for both eating and drinking.

takeout <£5-8 mainly with a few eat in now and again. Relatively healthy so protein/fat/veg with sensible carbs. Alternative to the lazy (and not that good) salads at Pret or stuff at Itzu essentially! I am looking specifically to the moorgate area and to it's south, north and west (so moorgate/oldgate/barbican triangle, as I have worked around the other side of Liverpool street and Fenchurh before and so know that area (had far too many meals at Haz!!).
With the city, it has all these little alleys and nooks and crannies, plus stuff on top of tower blocks etc hence good to find some local knowledge.
Should probably also spend more time around the silicon roundabout thingies, as I do more corporate/sme than start up work so not really got involved in that scene. Google do free barbecues on Fridays? I remember being told that by someone.

Depending on how bored you are, Leather Lane market is walkable in maybe 15 mins. I went there for the first time earlier this week and there was an impressive range of street food stalls and casual restaurants. It's not exactly local to Moorgate, but would be an interesting diversion for a lunchtime if you've got some time on your hands.
There’s a butchers just off Watling st that sells all sorts of cooked meats at lunchtime. Queues are often out the door.
There’s also a Vietnamese City caphe off Gresham st with similar queues from the Nearby Bank of China staff.
Once a month there is a market in guildhall yard and weekly on a Friday in new change.
Further afield you could walk to spitalfields, poppies fish and chips or even further to brick lane for a salt beef bagel all within a lunch hour if such thing still exists!

+1 - on budget and good selectionOtherwise most stuff around Moorgate is typical ersatz wagaitsubi overpriced cr@p. If you can make it over toward Liverpool St there is great sushi (eat in or take away) at Moshi Moshi in the station and decent cheap Indian street food at Tiffin Box in Harrow Place, a bit further east

I like Birley sandwiches on Old Broad St - well known chain in The City and the Wharf. Good for breakfast sandwiches as well. Not the cheapest but good quality (and quantity if you get the hot specials!).
They also have a branch on Paternoster Sq.
