I don't drink wine, but do like it in some dishes and going to make a beef bourguignon, I do my shopping at sainsbury's online; can someone recommend a red wine that'd suit?

Many thanks biggrin

A Burgundy.
Strictly you should use wine you're going to drink to cook with!

As said a burgundy, I just use something robust and spend about a fiver. One bottle does a stew for 4, (my recipe)

Tip, if you are going to marinate the meat first boil the wine for a few minutes before letting it cool again. Reduces the alcohol content and concentrates the flavour if you reduce by a third.

Welshbeef will have some imaginary suggestions I’m sure.

To the complete opposite of all advise we regularly stock up on the cheapest of the cheap supermarket red for cooking with. On the rare occasion I’ve had to use something different I can’t tell.

I do however have a penchant for pot roasts using cheap supermarket mulled wine. Lovely lick

Thanks everyone! Turned out to be bloody delicious biggrin

Good tip about boiling the wine beforehand. I did it in the slow cooker so suspect the alcohol stayed in there a bit!!

Cheers

I hope you didn't spend less than £20 for the cooking wine.
Would ruin the meal if you did laugh

I rarely use anything except actual cooking wine, about £3.20 for 3 litres!

Never used a whole bottle of anything over £7-8 for cooking. I'd rather be drinking it.
