I normally use the local butchers in out town as its a 5 minute walk into town, have a nose around, into the butchers and a bit of a chat and come out with some nice meat.

I have been told from people in work that muscle foods are worth a try as they are cheaper and still good quality. I have had a look on the site and yes they do look like the bundles cost less, no doubt about that. But are they as good as I have been told?

Some of the beef they have as British and Irish but other items they don't mention it.

Anyway are they worth a try or will I be disappointed after getting used to nice flavour with the butchers meat, so to speak?

Thanks all.

I don't know about muscle foods but would suggest supporting your local butcher otherwise when you want something special they won't be there any longer.

What is a muscle food from the butchers?:

Note my dog eats anything from the butchers and he is still 70lb and as fit as a butchers dog because he just runs around the countryside for two hours per day like some latter day Argentinian Exocet missile.

Energy in v Energy out.

5 words/letters for dogs and people to not get fat,

Energy in v Energy out

Having said that anything from the butchers will be better if you know how to cook it properly.

I've bought from muscle foods a couple of times when their hamper deals were very good value. I suspect it was probably a loss leader for them. Once you're on their lists, they tend to bombard you every other day with marketing texts and emails with utterly annoying 'OMG YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW' type offers.

The muscle food part tends to attribute themselves to the fact they sell lean meats - their stuff was alright but nothing special. The chicken was a bit better than what you find at tesco, but still pissed a bit of water when you tried to cook it. The burgers again are all a bit so so.

Their ready meals are fking awful - don't let the marketing type tell you otherwise.

As said, if you can get it at a similar cost support your local butcher.

I get my weekday meat in bulk from my local butcher once a fortnight. You can always add or swap bits out with your order to suit.

My missus orders chicken breasts from them because they’re quite cheap, it’s usually Lithuanian I think. She got some sausages last time and they were so st we fed the remaining packet to the dogs. I’m sure we’ve had the burgers as well but I much prefer to make my own from steak mince.

Thanks all. Not really going to be a regular thing, don't worry I will still use out butchers, but it was a hamper deal and I thought to give it a go.

As said, what we don't eat sire the dog will enjoy!

Wife ordered once from them and fitness fodder, it was no better than the award winning butcher we use who is cheaper and uses locally sourced meat which is ethically reared blah blah blah.
I'm no food expert but when i'm choosing a steak i pick the ones i like the look of not what someone else throws in a box.

The breasts are british, the chicken burgers were to Romania. I've used a few times, great for sticking in the freezer. But as someone else posted they spam you a lot.

Has anyone ever seen an independent butcher that HASN'T been an award winner?
It seems like those fake degree certificates you can buy online, here every butcher I've been to has a few awards proudly displayed.

A couple of them are really good, but most are pretty useless. "Two pounds of sirloin, you said? Actually I'd recommend a burnt goats head, Sir - It's on offer today! Maybe some unwashed tripe to go with it? They go very well together!"

What a glowing endorsement hehe

Cheap chicken - full of hormones. I wouldn’t touch st like that. You’ll grow tits or two heads

One head and no tits so far but I don’t eat much chicken anyway. It’s probably no different to the stuff you get in supermarkets to be fair. I mostly eat beef and get that from the farmer across the road from my parents house.

I buy from them every month, chicken is really tasty, doesn't shrink like supermarket chicken, is much cheaper than the butchers and they generally throw in free goodies in the box.
