Rather excited to say the least!
Only problem I foresee is getting it in the house and out the back - weighs circa 75kg I think?
Anyone had the same challenge?

Took deliver of a Kamado Joe last week. It came on a pallet and I had to get my son around to firstly lift it off the pallet and then to help me carry it through the garage and into the back garden. Bloody heavy.

Great suggestion on with the sack barrow - hadn't thought of that.

Heard someone at work talking about one of these the other day. Certainly not cheap are they.

Just be glad you didn't get the 2XL version that comes in at almost 500lbs. eek

Nope not cheap at all, man maths ruled - this or replace the (perfectly working) cooker in the kitchen. And yes the 2xl wouldn't get through the front door of my flat!!

I've got the XL, and I ended up building it on the drive then manhandled/made ramps to get it round the back

Any reason you built it then moved it? I was thinking I might walk it through the house in parts and then build in the back yard?

Don't know about the egg, but the Kamado Joe, comes assembled but obviously not in its frame. But the egg itself is the heavy bit, the stand is light. I have a sack truck, but it would not have taken the weight of my grill, it was a good two man lift

Would I be right in thinking this one has a 30" diameter? https://www.biggreenegg.co.uk/shop/big-green-eggs/...

Cooking area = 4,336 sq. cm. so diameter = (4,336 / 3.1415927 ) ^ (1/2) = 37.15cm radius = 74.3 cm diameter = c. 30" It's gargantuan!!

Because it was easier, I'd ordered the wheels stand with it.

Not sure about the BGE, but with the Kamado Joe, you can take the firebox out to save a bit of weight moving it. Of course, my wife and I only figured this out after we'd manhandled the thing though the house in one piece...

First go with the BGE- 1 inch thick rib eye steaks. Awesome. What a piece of kit this is, suspect I'll not be heading out for a few weeks.

Slightly o/t

Was on holiday in Padstow last week and noticed that midway from the harbour to the large metal bridge there is what looks like a large garden shed with bar and a BGE in it, anchored into the estuary. Thought that was pretty cool.

I think they look cool and everything but just wondering why they are so expensive compared to like a Weber which are apparently also very good?

Genuine question, will hopefully be in the market for a decent BBQ once I'm in my new house...

There are plenty of alternatives without the 'name' and you'll definitely be paying a fashion tax on the BGE. I've got a Kamado Joe, sits somewhere between the Egg and the cheaper Costco/Lidl alternatives.

The advantage over a Weber kettle is that they can hold a constant temp for several hours, 18+ if you get it right so they have the upper hand when it comes to doing long, slow cooks that need a consistent even temp. You can also get them hotter, quicker if you're doing something directly over the heat. Don't know why but a simple roast chicken on the Joe is far, far superior to one done in the Weber or even the oven - they come out much, much juicer in them in my experience.

Yep, that's my experience as well. The Joe is in a completely different league to the Weber - there's no comparison.

Is a marketing/aspirational thing. There’s nothing you can do on these that you can’t do on a properly set up Weber (and that from someone who was almost seduced by their marketing at the 2015 Chelsea Flowen Show)

Not sure what you’re cooking for 18 hours plus, but I’ve done pulled pork, etc on a Weber for 10+ hours with no issues
