Gousto food boxes
Discussion
I signed up to an offer for Gousto boxes a few weeks ago and have been pleasantly surprised with the food we've been cooking.
So far we have cooked (from a wide menu range) -
Harissa Halloumi Sandwich & Carrot Slaw
Beef Keema With Lime & Coriander
Peri Peri Chicken, Chips & Apple Slaw
Simple Naan-Topped Lamb Rogan Josh Pie
Korean-Style Fried Chicken With Garlic Pak Choi
Miso & Sesame Chicken Noodles
Fragrant Lamb With Chilli, Ginger & Spinach
Chettinad Chicken Curry
We have an active 7yr old who is at classes 4 evenings a week, which meant the food we were getting was rushed, boring and unhealthy. So getting these meals to cook has been great and has allowed us to try food away from what we would normally cook; plus it gets us cooking together again.
You get a big box delivered with loose veg and then packed packets with the correct amount of other ingredients, so you can't really go wrong. So far, everything has been supplied, nothing missing.
I do have a code that i can pass on (pm me as i don't want to fall foul of any rules here) that would get a new subscriber 60% off their first box, PLUS 30% off for the whole month after.

Have you tried Hello Fresh out of interest?
It is more expensive but when comparing the two we found you get more protein and carbs per meal, by weight, with HF. Each meal is individually packaged with its respective ingredients rather than having to root around all the loose items with Gousto.

I've never looked into these companies before; how does the cost compare to the traditional method of going to a supermarket with a shopping list and a recipe in mind?
Also, how does delivery work? Is it a week's worth of recipes delivered at a time or something along those lines?
I think HF is something like £48.99 per week for 2 people, 5 meals when not on offer. Basically they try to keep it to under £5 per meal. Also, how does delivery work? Is it a week's worth of recipes delivered at a time or something along those lines?
They use DPD and you get all the meals delivered in one go in a one hour time slot on a day of your choosing.
As per the OP, I think the best thing about Gousto and Hello Fresh is the inspiration for new, reasonably healthy recipe ideas.

We've been using Gousto for several months now and absolutely love them. Really transformed our evening meals.
We tried Hello Fresh first but found Gousto better - both recipes and ingredients seem a lot better.
We have 2 young kids and found due to time we were eating the same stuff all the time, spicy pasta dishes, spag bol, chilie etc.
Really nice having new dishes to try and I can honestly count the number of meals that we didn't like on one hand.
We get 4 meals a week as we are usually out at least one night and on the other days usually end up just getting the ingredients to make some of our favourite recipes.
There a quite a few dishes that we'd now rather make on a weekend rather than buying a takeaway. Some of the curries are ace and really simple.
Not too sure on the cost as the wife orders them but the amount of food we end up throwing away has decreased massively.
They are also very good for portion control as you get all the exact weights and measures you need. My only criticism is that sometimes you may need to increase some of the ingredients yourself. In some of the chicken dishes for example you will get 1 large chicken breast for a 2 person recipe which isn't enough for me but easy enough to just add another one.

I am also signed up for the Gousto!
Did it a fair bit when I lived with my housemate after a guy (called Dan) knocked on the door selling the idea and liked it a lot. Wouldn't do it every day, but if you have a busy week it's a great way to cook something fun without the faff, and if you can get some boxes half price it's fairly reasonable cost too.
Four meals for four people, with 60% off is £19, of £2.10 a meal.
At the moment they are offering 60% off your first box, PLUS 30% off for a whole month, for what we get £30 is signed up today (all of Feb) or £15 there after.

Yes. We did about five boxes a year, which netted out to half price, kept the cards and folder and re-made quite a few.
Now we have restarted and got the above current deal. It's just a easy way to bring some life into cooking, simple to make tasty meals, and stuff arriving means you have to cook it, else often you end up have jacket potatoes cheese and beans again!
Partners sister is living with us atm, so we get the four person box and freeze one meal for when one of us is away or partner takes one in when she is on nights.
