To supplement the usual Tripadvsor search does anyone have any recommendations for good places for lunch in or near Covent Garden?

Easy on the type of food but my wife isn't a massive fan of French (shame as I love it). Italian followed by seafood would probably be the favourites.

Thanks

I would recommend the Ivy Market Grill on the edge of Covent Garden - good food, not too expensive and a nice environment

Budget?

There are a few - Giovannis is good... tucked away in the heart of Covent Garden and normally quiet.

J Sheekey - excellent but quiet pricey. Booking essential....

Fumo - quirky Italian, expensive.

Probably need a bit more info from you. smile

Cora Pearl in Henrietta St is great.

https://www.corapearl.co.uk

For Italian, Margot in Great Queen St is hard to beat. Excellent food and great, without being overbearing, service.

Frenchie (also Henrietta St) is very good too - but French (although modern)!

Just noticed your comment about seafood. Oystermen - also Henrietta St, next door to Cora Pearl - is a great spot for lunch!

Rules is a bit of an institution, and good in a classically English kind of way. It's not ground breaking, but the food is unfussy and consistently good.

Bit off the wall, but this has literally just opened. Upper floor of the market. Not been myself but good reviews!

Clos Maggiore is well worth a trip albeit a little touristy. Balthezar is excellent and very busy, I eat here frequently.

Seafood: wander down to Kaspar's on the Strand (part of the Savoy) if budget allows. Sheekey's as above.

Not a huge fan of the Ivy Garden, I'd just go to the Ivy unless you can't get a table (they hold them back for walk ins at the Bar though so I've never had this problem)

Luke.

It was overpriced crap the last time I went there. Service was dire, food mediocre bordering on cold, and it wasn't very busy.

Stark contrast to the previous times I'd been.

My vote is for Lima Floral, a Peruvian restaurant at the top of Garrick street. The menu is excellent, they do excellent ceviche and wonderful seafood. I like it as its a bit different to the usual European restaurants.

La Goccia in Petersham Nurseries in King St is a fairly new Italian with an open kitchen.

https://petershamnurseries.com/dine/la-goccia

Fumo in St Martins Lane has been mentioned - I’ve not been at lunchtime but it’s fun in the evening. I wouldn’t say it’s pricey - but it’s tapas style so you can get carried away ordering lots of small dishes!

There is a LOT of choice in Covent Garden. I’ve tried to recommend the less ‘touristy’ and ‘chain’ type destinations.

Thanks all.

Loads of good suggestions in there so will have a look.

As for Rules I'd love to go there. Wanted to go since seeing it briefly in the Bond film Spectre. Not my wife's cup of tea though unfortunately!

Petersham nurseries is a beautiful place particularly in the summer when you can eat outside.
The food however was average bordering on crap. I went to the higher end one of the 2 restaurants they have.
Only been once and when it was fairly new, admittedly, so things might have changed
