Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a decent online wine supplier - for my Xmas wine selection. I am really after a good selection of reasonably priced new world wine - or even just Californian Chardonnay

I already use the Wine Society.
I am not interested in Laithwaites or anyone related to or similar to.
I used to use Wine Direct, but am boycotting them due to their appalling customer service last Xmas (order placed December 3rd, impossible to speak to anyone on the phone, delivery arrived after Xmas)

Any suggestions?

So why don't you want to use them for this? Only heard good stuff myself.

They only have a choice of 7 USA Chardonnays and 3 of those are over £40 a bottle.

I'm after a wider selection at a lower price point (than £40 / bottle)

Why wouldn't you want a Burgundy instead of Cali?

I really enjoy Naked Wine for casual drinking. It's not going to reach the heights of the 'fine wine' societies, but I struggle with spending £40+ on a bottle that I can't taste first - so I tend to buy these from my local specialist.
Naked has plenty of choice in the £10-20 region, and a good review/rating system. I've had many more hits than misses, but it's probably not the place I'd order a show-stopping CdP from. Horses for courses.

I’ve never had a problem with virgin wine customer service and if you don’t like a wine simply get another free!

I'm with Naked too, but you really need to be an Angel to get the best prices, not sure what the waiting list is like at the moment.
They also give a free bottle each month (with any order) and around Christmas it's usually a magnum biggrin
Some great wines from small producers and plenty less than £10.

Oh and the customer service is amazing. Yodel delivered my wine to a random other house in the village. Well, dumped by their backdoor while they were out, rather than delivered.
Luckily she was nice and honest, phoned them up, they contacted me a I wandered over.
Customer service sent me and the random neighbour a couple of freebie bottles smile

I use Highbury Vinters now and then, usually have a very good selection and price is reasonable as far as I can tell. They offer good postage service.

Plus another 11 from NZ. Once you ignore all their terrible Sauv Blanc there's some great stuff.

TWS will not offer extensively from regions they consider poor value or quality (fx or harvest). they went through similar recently with only stocking the bare min from Argentina.

Try BBR if you want similar range but they'll see you coming.

Absolutely. I've been an Angel for about 18mths or so, mainly for the exclusives rather than the discount. Worth every penny.

Wash your mouth out! laugh
I was a real cynic until I was in Marlborough last year, and the quality of the SB (and Pinot Noir) absolutely blew me away. None of the harshness/bitterness of Italian and French versions - instead a wonderfully smooth flavour with notes of exotic fruits, and eminently drinkable on a warm day.
Not the most complex or exclusive wine by any measure, but none the worse for it.

shawbury vintners are great. They tend to do more food shows and country fairs and things, and also get you free tickets to attend as long as you go along and taste what they have. In theory no obligation but you know... and also the wine is v good.

Have you tried Burgundy compared with Cali?

Do you accept that some people actually prefer Cali to Burgundy?

For any given price point (apart from maybe £5) I massively prefer a Californian wine to anything French.

Why not try Great Western Wine of Bath?

They have a really good selection of wines and knock 10% off if a full case is bought. Doesn't matter if it's all the same wine, or a mixed case.
