My work place doesn't have a designated eating area so the eating is done in the office at the desk. I've been bringing sandwiches into work for the past 3 weeks and its getting boring. Any ideas for lunches that don't give off too much of a smell?

Really simple one but one I really enjoy and is my goto for most days, microwaveable rice and and a sliced chicken breast. Sounds a bit dull but I really enjoy it, no smell, only really suitable if you enjoy rice. Plenty of rices available with a flavour to spice it up a bit. A warm lunch is nice, as opposed to a sarnie.

A colleague does similar but he'll often have sardines in tomato sauce with his, not sure I'm that brave yet!

As above, I normally buy a packet of Mexican rice from Tesco and have it with a chicken breast and some salad bits.

Substitute the meat and different rices and the world is your oyster.

Other supermarkets are available.

Salad, roast chicken.

Or just stop giving a st what anyone else thinks. Management should provide an eating area, if they don't it's not your fault so chow on down on a balti and dominate the toilets all afternoon.

Quinoa and long grain rice pack or Dr Zak's pasta with chicken breast. I usually add beetroot or broccoli too.

cold food in general wont give off much of a smell. but if there are other people eating smelly food then i wouldn't worry to much.

cold pasta salads are worth considering (yes, even tuna).

also, depending on whether you know how to cook some people might even like the smell of what food you bring in. like a spagbol, some hate the smell of curry, some love it. it really just depends.

I once microwaved some kippers in the office. Looking back now I realise how unpleasant that must have been for everyone but honestly at the time I had no idea it was a problem. Ahh to be 17 and carefree again.

As for light lunches I quite like soup, you can take it in a thermos if there is no microwave. Another is if you have a toaster in the office take a couple of pittas to toast some hommus and olives with feta and maybe some sliced roma sausage.

Some natural fat free yoghurt with frozen summer fruit is also a good desert / mid morning snack and if you don't have a fridge the frozen fruit will keep the yoghurt cool for a few hours.

If you can at all avoid it, just get out of the office for lunchtime. For your whole lunchbreak. If you don't want to spend on eating in a pub or café eat a picnic on a park bench or something. It's just generally better for you!

Guy at work re-heats leftovers from the night before or a Ginsters from the shop over the road, he bloody stinks the place out, particularly if there is any veg involved.

I take a cold chicken salad.

Haha, I have experienced the microwaved broccoli before at my old place. Horrible. Boiled broccoli is ok, something about microwaving it turns the smell up to 11.

Why do you care?

Bring food that smells lush. Become the envy of the office. The only time anyone gets upset at in office scran is when it smells rank. Nice smelling food is universally pleasing smile

Some of the Fresh soups from Sainsbury's are quite nice. Just need microwaving and you can eat out of the container so no washing up

on another note, don't know anyone that doesn't like the smell of a roast. pretty easy to make yourself a chicken tray bake using legs, thighs and potatos. if you want you could include roasted broccoli, carrots, parsnips.
